The Patriotic Folk Animals Quilt is complete. I took it outside this morning to get some pictures in our light dusting of snow. I really like the effect of the quilting on the neutral blocks of the flag stripes. I used my ruler to give it a fun texture. (The 3D dog's ear is flipped up in this photo.)
I did not do an edge-to-edge design on this one -- surprisingly. I experimented with a template in the corners, waving lines, straight lines, ruler work in the neutral pieces of the stripes in the stars, stippling, stars & loopys, and outlines. I'm happy with it. It finishes at
Here's the pieced back. The center blocks were pieced cheater blocks that were in a scrap bag that a friend gave to me earlier this year. I purposely tried to not center it on the back.
First it was inspected by Newman. He did not walk on the quilt.
Next, Cooper came by to check it out -- but did not walk on the quilt.
Newman comes back for another look and struts away... I wonder if he is wondering if I am going to add button eyes to the animals. I don't think so at this point. I like it as it is.
Next Newman, Cooper, and Ezra have a meeting. It seems that they deemed the quilt unsafe to walk upon. They did not give me their approval. I guess they won't make it into the Pets on Quilts show.

Nice finish, Kathy!! Yay for getting it finished and photographed! LOL on the cats!!!
Thanks for commenting on my blog about the baby quilt! I don't know why but your comments don't come into my email box the way all the others do. I did see it on my blog though. Keep on making baby quilts!!!
Now that is adorable!! That quilting you did just makes everything pop!!! This is perfect!
Really nice finish! My cat always flops on the quilts when I am done. All except the one I made for him to keep him off of mine. Nice quilting job.
Ooh this is really so cute!! Nice job on this one...hugs, Julierose
The quilt is really cute. I love the folk art animals. The backing is perfect. The quilting in the neutral stripes is very cool.
That is wonderful. The folk animals are so cute. Great backing too.
None of my comments go to e-mails anymore. I wish I could figure this out. It used to be that nothing happened. Now I get an e-mail that says message failed. Hmmm. I still win contests, but ever since Blogger changed a bit I have this problem.
I too have to go back to the comments section to see everything. If someone comments on an old post I usually don't see it -- bummer!
Thanks, Alycia. The only thing I don't like about this type of quilting is that it always looks sort of funny to me on the back. Some day I'll get past that.
Thanks, Linda. All of our cats are outdoor cats. I'm pretty sure that has something to do with it.
Thank you for your sweet comment! ;)
The quilting in the neutral stripes is one of my favorite parts about this quilt -- that and the animals. Thank you.
I really do like these fun little animals. It's definitely patriotic too.
This is such a pretty quilt! You could always embroider an little circle for an eye.
Hi Kathy! This is such a cute quilt . . . and your inspectors are just priceless. Nice job. ~smile~ Roseanne
