To-Do Tuesday with ChrisKnits 4.27.21

I really like making lists.  I like it so much I plan on linking up at ChrisKnits each Tuesday that I can.  The linky party for this week is here.

Here's my list for this week of April 20th:

1.  Complete asterisk blocks for the Full Stop (RSC21) quilt.

2.  Complete the blue row for the Stay Centered quilt.

3.  Make 3.5" rail fence blocks as leader/enders.

4.  Pull fabrics to make pieced backs for Owl's Well That Ends Well quilt and Scrap Crystals quilt.

5.  Sew together a row or two of turkeys for the Gobble Gobble quilt.

I made a lot of progress on the list for last week.

I haven't been feeling all that great.  I wasn't that productive this week.  Today is day 10 of feeling sick.  Hopefully I've made it over the hump.

Plans for this week of April 27th:

1.  Make a scrappy back for Owl's Well that Ends Well.

2.  Make a back for Scrap Crystals (I found yardage in my stash!)

3.  Sew together two rows of turkeys for Goggle Gobble that I didn't sew together last week.

4.  Load my friend's quilt on the longarm and start quilting it.

April Table Scraps Challenge -- Mariner's Compass Table Topper

I can't wait to see how this looks on my sister-in-law's coffee table.  It measures 51" x 21.5".

I like the way the dense maze quilting makes the three Mariner's Compass blocks just float.  I'm glad I put these three orphan blocks that I found to good use.

I'm linking up with Joy at The Joyful Quilter for the April, 2021, Table Scraps Challenge.

RSC21 Scrap Happy Saturday

I'm still working my way through all those beautiful blue scraps.  I love these littles as a leader/ender project.  Now I have 82/900 complete.

I finished the blue row of the Stay Centered quilt.  Here it is attached to the yellow row.

I finished the asterisk block row for the Full Stop quilt.  Instructions are on Angela's post here.  The block on the end is a bit wonky.  I think it gives it character.  I can live with it.  I cut it wrong.  I am still super happy with my grey print background fabric choice.

THREE of my projects I have worked on this year during the RSC made a lot of progress!  I hope to make blue scrappy backs for Scrap Crystals and for Owl's Well That Ends Well.

I'm so excited that I finished piecing my Scrap Crystals quit top.  Scrap Crystals is a Bonnie Hunter design in her book More Adventures With Leaders & Enders.

I pieced all the turkeys in my Gobble Gobble quilt with polka dot scraps.  The pattern is by Bee in my Bonnet (Lori Holt).  You can see it here.

I put a small border around Owl's Well That Ends Well.  I re-sized the blocks and made them smaller to make the pattern more compatible with my Accuquilt dies.  The original pattern is by Judy Gauthier in her book, Quilts for Scrap Lovers.  I also changed positions of some of the wings to mix it up.

I also finished my Table Scraps Challenge that linked up at The Joyful Quilter.

I'm linking up at Angela's blog, SoScrappy, for the RSC21.

Happy Mail! Incoming and Outbound

Cynthia from Creatin' in the Sticks sent me this GORGEOUS striped fabric from Australia.  I won her giveaway during the Show Your Stripes blog hop.

It is oh so silky soft!  I will be petting it for a while before I find the perfect project for it.  Thank you, Cynthia!!!

I also mailed my H2H2021 quilt to Little Lambs.  I chose my Hot Mess Temperature Quilt to send to Little Lambs.

But when I folded the quilt and placed it in the mailing envelope, I noticed there was quite a bit of space left over in the envelope.  I decided to just fill it to the brim and send two other little quilts I finished earlier this year as well.  Here they are in the parking lot of the post office:

You can get more details on the Hands 2 Help Quilt Drive at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

I'm linking up to Sarah's blog, Confessions of a Fabric Addict for the H2H Progress Post.

WIP Wednesday 4.21.21

 Here's what happened this week:

With hesitation I took the QA, Follow Your Path, off of my sidebar.  I decided I will just have to watch the others play.  I don't think I have the energy for another project in the rotation right now.

I'm dragging my feet on making asterisks for the Full Stop quilt for the RSC21.  I was going to make them while my son was taking state math tests yesterday, but I realized that this was the last day for some coupons that I had clipped.  I did get them to this point:

Yesterday I was going to mail my Hot Mess Temperature quit to Little Lambs for the H2H (Hands to Help) 2021 charity quilt drive.  There was still some space left over in the mailer so I decided to stuff two more quilts in there.  I mailed these three for a donation this year.  The below photo was yesterday.

Today we got up to the ground being covered in snow.  Glad I didn't start anything in my garden yet.  I didn't mow yesterday either because snow was in the forecast.  It is pretty, though.  Glad I picked a few lilacs for the vase last night.  These photos were taken this morning:

Tuesday To-Do 4.20.21

Today I'm going to work on finishing my asterisk blocks for the Full Stop quilt for the RSC21.  You can get the details on Angela's blog here.

Due to my toe/other mishaps this week I was able to complete my list with ease.  Sunday morning I got up and went to church.  When we got home I was out of energy.  I chalked it up to delivering groceries to people in our area for the Farmers to Families food distribution by our church.  I slept ALL DAY!  Yesterday I slept half a day.  Today I'm a little congested but that seems to be it.  I think I'm on the mend.  Looks like I'll sew some more today and get a few more things done.  It couldn't have happened at the perfect time.  My husband worked out of town yesterday and today and tomorrow our son has state math testing.  My resting time will be built in to my schedule automatically!

I really like making lists.  I like it so much I plan on linking up at ChrisKnits each Tuesday that I can.  The linky party for this week is here.

Here's my list from this week of April 13th:

1.  Make sashing and cornerstones for the Scrap Crystals quilt.  Start assembling the rows.

2.  Complete the turkey blocks with bright blue backgrounds for Gobble Gobble (Lori Holt) quilt.

3.  Cut light/bright blue 2.5" strips for the Stay Centered quilt.

4.  Find a light/bright blue fabric in my stash to use as a border for Owl's Well That Ends Well.

Welcome to the Flock(s)

Welcome to the flock.  Oh I love the fun dot fabrics in this quilt.  These are the turkeys in my Gobble Gobble quilt.  The pattern is by Bee in my Bonnet (Lori Holt).  You can see it here.  I put my Turkey blocks together this week after making the feet during February (the yellow month.)

I purchased this pattern years ago when I had a gift card to spend at the Fat Quarter Shop.  I loved the scrappy opportunities it presented.  In February, 2021, I played with the yellow scraps for the RSC and cut and sewed all the legs (drumsticks).  I also cut the beaks and set them aside.

I knew I was going to work on it during a 2021 blue month.  The words will most likely be orange and green.

All of the turkeys have dots, circles or swirls.  I got a lot of these fabrics during a charm swap years ago.  I haven't done many charm swaps.  I just don't like the idea of mailing so much stuff these days.  Aren't they fun?

I've been staying off my feet this week because I broke my little toe about two weeks ago.  Then I tried to wear a pair of slip-on shoes that I got at Goodwill that didn't touch my toe.  Then I got blisters the size of a quarter on each arch because of the slip-on shoes.  Then the blistered popped.  I didn't want to be unproductive so I stayed in the house and didn't wear shoes.  I mopped the floor with Pine-sol.  By that night the blisters were infected because Pine-sol leaked in them.  I squeezed out all the bad liquid and took a Vicodin.  At that point I pulled on my broken toe.  I think it is now back in place because it doesn't hurt as bad.  I put on a pair of rubber boots and fed the chickens.  I slipped in the mud and twisted my knee... My husband just looks at me and shakes his head...  I'm feeling much better today and can now bend almost everything and put on shoes.  BUT it did give me a lot of extra time to work on putting my Scrap Crystals (Bonnie Hunter design) quilt top together!  There is always a silver lining in every story.

I love the way the blues and greens play together.  I ran out of the dark blue for the border.  See that light blue 1.5" strip at the top right?  That is now my front-of-the-quilt label.  I machine embroidered the label AND included a finish date of May 21, 2021.  I guess this will be my OMG to finish in May.  The next step is to make a pieced back.  I believe I have some blue orphan blocks that will be used here.  Stay tuned.

I used this blue fabric from my stash to move forward another quilt.  This one is called Owl's Well That Ends Well.  I re-sized the blocks and made them smaller to make the pattern more compatible with my Accuquilt dies.  The original pattern is by Judy Gauthier in her book, Quilts for Scrap Lovers.  I also changed positions of some of the wings to mix it up.  I worked on these owl blocks while playing along with scraps with the RSC.  The next step will be to make a pieced, blue backing for it.

It was another productive RSC week! I'm linking up with Angela at SoScrappy for the RSC21.  The party starts here.

Scrap Crystals Quilt Top Is Complete

I'm so excited that I finished piecing my Scrap Crystals quit top last night.  Scrap Crystals is a Bonnie Hunter design in her book More Adventures With Leaders & Enders.  Here it is in the 6pm sun & wind:

I'm super happy how the colors play in this one.  It was pretty windy.

The next step will be making a light/bright blue pieced backing for this.  I may also look through the orphan blocks to see what blue blocks I have.  I'm sure there are a few.

Soul Searching is Complete -- WIP Wednesday 4.14.21

It's been another fantastic week of quilting.  This week I completed my Soul Searching quilt.  Woohoo, the grass is green and starting to grow in this part of the yard.  (We just planted this part of the yard last year after some earth work.)  The sun was shining!!!

The cool thing that makes this quilt special is that this quilt top was made by my quilty friend, Julianne, that used to blog at Quilting With Calicos.  We decided to make quilt tops and swap.  I received this quilt from her on 8/29/19.  It's a fine time for a finish.  The rich colors remind me of Julianne's bright personality.  We secretly made blocks and didn't post about them each month of the RSC in 2018ish.

It measures 72" x 80".  I made this yellow back in February when the color of the month for the RSC21 was yellow.  I made the binding in March when the color of the month for the RSC21 was green.  The RSC has been helping me cross things off my WIP list one at a time.

Here's a close-up photo of the quilting while it was still on the longarm frame.  The pattern is by Urban Elementz.  It is called Ba Da Bing.

Soul Searching was part of a quilt top swap that Julianne of Quilting with Calicos and I decided to do.  We both secretly made Soul Searching blocks starting in 2016.  Life happened and we both got a little behind.  Kevin the Quilter did a gorgeous Soul Searching quilt in purples and blues.  You can see it on his blog here.  "Soul Searching" is a quilt design by Kathy Doughty of Material Obsession.  Luckily my local library has this book when I need it -- FOR FREE USE!!!

I'm happy to announce that my OMG (one main goal) for April is already complete!  Woohoo!  I am crushing my WIP list one item at a time.  I will be linking up at Elm Street Quilts here.

I love how it looks in the sunshine.

Here's the pieced yellow back that I made in Feburary when yellow was the color of the month for the RSC21.  I'm finding that I can move quilt progress forward setting goals with the RSC group.  I also did the binding in green dots because it was the color of the month in March for the RSC21.

Again I tried to get the outside cats to pose on the quilt.  No luck.  This is as close as one got this time.

Yet I did have several onlookers...  They deemed this quilt unsafe to inspect, but seemed to enjoy taking in the sunshine on the old concrete.

I put my owl blocks together from the quilt called Owl's Well That Ends Well.  I altered the size of the blocks of a quilt designed by Judy Gauthier in her book, Quilts for Scrap Lovers.  I will add a light/bright blue border from my stash to move this quilt along.  I think it will be a great quilt for a kid.

I finished assembling all of the main blocks of my Scrap Crystals.  This is a Bonnie Hunter design from her book More Adventures With Leaders & Enders.  I am loving the blue/green combination.  The sashings and cornerstones really adds a lot of interest to this pattern.  It is on the bed on top of my Ohio quilt.

I still have a table topper on my longarm.  I am playing with some of the quilting on it and it will take some extra time.

I quilted this design on the Mariner's Compass blocks;

The time consuming part is that I quilting a maze micro filler design from Circle Lord on the rest of it.

I now stand at 54 projects on my WIP list.
