WIP Wednesday 8.26.15

I'm getting back in the groove now that school is back in session!  LOVING my longarm quilting time!

I whipped this little table runner together for a quick birthday gift.  It's on the frame now.  These are some of the tall fly blocks that I won in the Block Lotto.

I finished longarming this customer quilt this week:

I also finished longarming this charity auction quilt for my local quilt guild:

Blue and Yellow Quilt Finish

Yeah!  I have a finish under my belt for this school year.

This is a customer's quilt.  She designed the block and will hopefully be teaching a class for our guild.

I quilted it with my Circle Lord Cosmos giant board.  I LOVE this board.  It's the one that takes the longest to quilt (that I have).  But the results are worth it!

I'm linking up with Richard and Tanya Quilts for Link-a-Friday Finish.  Have a great week!  Now that school is back in session I hope to have NUMEROUS finishes to show you.

Gorgeous Blue & Yellow on the Frame

Longarm quilting is on the schedule for quite a while for me now that school is back in session.  After quilting the Pegasus Charity Auction Quilt with my Circle Lord Cosmos Giant Template Board I was on a roll.  I threw this blue/yellow customer quilt in the frame.

Here's the details.  The Cosmos show up nicely in the royal blue border.

Love the block that Sue designed!  You can't see them, but there are little blue flowers in the yellow print of this quilt.  These are also our school colors.  It's GORGEOUS!

Friday Finish -- The 2015 Pegasus Charity Quilt

I had a GORGEOUS Friday finish today, if I can say so myself.  This quilt was a group effort of my local quilt guild.  It is a charity quilt that will be auctioned at a Gala to benefit Pegasus Farms.

I know that I made two blocks for the quilt last year.  The quilt was recently put together and I was selected to do the longarm quilting on it.  Although it is my most timely quilting template to use (of the Circle Lord Giant Boards), it is well worth the time and effort of this quilting pattern.  It is called Cosmos.  It gives the quilt such a feminine touch.

Here's the back.  If you click on the pictures you can see more detail.

Hope the "guild girls" don't get mad that it touched the ground.  Luckily it wasn't muddy (this time).

LOVE this pattern.  I'll update my blog later today to let you know the name of the pattern.  All the paperwork is in the "extras" bag that travels with the quilt in case of a mishap or something.  There are fun scraps in there.  This fabric is JUST GORGEOUS.  I'm not a batiks fan very often, but I love the gold streaks in this fabric.

WIP Wednesday -- Back to School, Kids!!! 8/19/15

School is back in session!!!  Look for a lot more quilting coming from me in the near future.  The GREAT news is that I have new customers (for my longarm services).  I have 15 quilts that need to be quilted for others!!  I'm so excited to get the loaded, quilted, and show them to you.  I'll need to update my TO DO WIP list.  I haven't added them to it yet.

This gorgeous quilt is on my longarm frame now.  It is a charity auction quilt for my local quilt guild.  I'll get a better picture of it when it's done.  Aren't these GORGEOUS fabrics?

Here's what the quilt top looks like -- and that's Phyllis, our guild president.

I got some new chicks!

Then we hatched MORE new chicks!

I made four blocks for my City Sampler At Your Own Pace QA.  96 to go...

I signed up to be a stop on the Blog Hop for Dog Gone Cute QA.  Can't resist these pups!!!

I finished step 6 of the Scrap Dance Mystery QA.  Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy.

I played along with Bonnie Hunter's leader/ender project - Are you ready to Tumble?  I'm making five different rugs for my kitchen.  Here's #1.  (It still needs quilted and bound.)

I made only one sawtooth block for the RSC15.  I need a couple more for this month.

City Sampler At Your Own Pace Quilt Along Progress

Due to a little interruption from the waterpark again yesterday, I didn't get to post about my City Sampler (by Tula Pink) At Your Own Pace Quilt Along progress with Michele at Crayon Box Quilt Studio.

This month I finally decided that I wanted to work with my blue and green scraps for sure.  Besides neutrals, these are the colors that I have most (scrap wise).  I decided to throw a little purple in just for fun.  I'm not sure how the final layout will be.  There will be sashing involved.  I'm thinking either my treasured browns or oranges.  It will probably be orange sashing.

Here's my first four blocks.  Randomly, they are blocks 1, 2, 44, and 45.  (See my check off sheet?)

Come join in on the fun.  There's no pressure!!!  It's a QA that you can just do a block here and there.  Link up!

Dog Gone Cute

Sew Fresh Quilts

Have you seen the Dog Gone Cute pattern from Lorna at Sew Fresh Quilts?  Oh my, soooo cute!  I'm just going to have to participate in her quilt along.  Check out her blog, Sew Fresh Quilts.

I'll be quilting along and joining in on the blog hop too.  Can't wait to see what type of scrappy goodness I can pull from the scraps to make these cute little pups.  I'll make a baby-sized quilt.  Love those little blocks!

The QA will start September 1st.  Mark your calendar.  There will be a Show It Off day in October.

The pattern is reasonably priced at only $8!  Grab yours from the Payhip site here.  Scroll down to the bottom to find the Dog Gone Cute... but beware, there are other awfully tempting other cute patterns there.  I paid with Paypal and the pattern just instantly showed up in my e-mail!!!  Woot woot!

Scrap Dance QA -- Step 6

It's been a super fun summer.  Tonight is open house at the school.  That means that school is back in session next week.  Hopefully I'll have tons of fun quilts to show you soon.

I now have FIFTEEN CUSTOMER quilts that need to get to the longarm.  The customers all know my busy summer schedule with our son, so they are patiently waiting the return of their quilts.  Some of them are 22+ year old WIPS!

The 15 customer quilts do not include all of the quilt tops that I have been piecing this summer.  Can't wait to show you those as well.

Luckily this month for the Scrap Dance Quilt Along I only had to make two blocks for the table topper!  Woot woot!  This fit right into my schedule.  This is the last clue of this fun, mystery quilt along.  Can't wait until the big reveal on September 9th.  You can follow along with this QA at My Carolina Home.  Carole Carter does a great job of keeping you in stitches!  I'm still guessing how this will be put together.  You can see all the fun color combinations in our Flickr group here.

Here's my two blocks for August:

Notice that it is a lazy picture because I just set it on my desk calendar.  I think there is something written in almost every day..  Also notice that it is setting on the directions page for the Americana Row QA (row 3) instructions.  I need to get that done by the end of the month for the DOD Mystery Row Along.

The squares that I am using are 3" (2.5" finished) instead of the 2.5" in the pattern.  I am making a table topper.  All of my fabrics are blue with cream backgrounds.  Glad the reminder for this QA was written on my calendar...  I had these 3" squares cut from clue one.  They were sitting beside my sewing machine.  I almost used them for something else last week.  Whew!  Now they are in the right quilt!

Can't wait for 9/9 for the big reveal!

The BABIES!!!

Here's a quick picture of the three babies (well, chicks) that my youngest Ameraucana brood hen hatched earlier this week.  Aren't they so fluffily adorable?  These hatched 8/9/15.

Scraptastic Tuesday -- Are you Ready to Tumble?

I'm working on my Bonnie Hunter 2015 Leader/Ender Tumbler challenge.  You can read more about it here.  I am working with denim scraps.  I didn't want another super heavy quilt, so I decided to make kitchen rugs.  Denim is perfect for kitchen rugs.  I haven't decided what fabric to use as a backing yet.  I'm wondering if there is something that is non-slippery that I can wash...  I'll have to use a coupon at JoAnn's next week.

I'm linking up with Leanne at She Can Quilt for the August Scraptastic Link up (and also Nicky - Mrs. Sew and Sow.)  I try to manage scraps by sorting fabrics by color (mostly) and non-cotton fabrics by type.  I had enough denim for my rug project.

Here's my first rug.  There WILL be more!!!  I need five for my kitchen.  I think I will make them all different, but being all denim they will have some cohesion.

Hello World

Good morning new world.  This little chick hatched today.

This is the proud rooster, Wiggles.

"Martin", a Red Sex Link (breed sold by TSC) could possibly be the mom.  (She's the one on the right, pictured below.)

Here's this chick's sibling, still wet from hatching.  I just missed it.  But there are four more eggs to hatch and surrogate mama hen is still sitting on the eggs patiently.

The blue/green egg has a pip in it.  Sadly the second chick to hatch (pictured by these eggs) didn't make it.

About two hours later after I saw the above pip on the blue/green egg, this adorable grey one hatched!

This is what the Easter Egger Americana chick looked like after it dried.

After church I checked and there is ANOTHER grey chick!!!  I wasn't expecting this color!!! Whohoo!

And here's the proud mama to the little grey one.  I know this one is hers because she laid the egg the same day I gave her eggs to sit on.  It was her last egg before brooding.  She's having a bad hair day right now and looking a little rough.  Brooding is hard work.

Scrap Saturday

Yes, I haven't blogged for a while.  The 8 year old and I have been running from amusement park to amusement park trying to squeeze in any last minute summer fun.  I finally managed to sew a sawtooth block for the RSC15.

Linking up with Angela at SoScrappy for the RSC15.  See what others did with their red scraps this week here.RSC 15

Gypsy Queen Mystery Quilt Along at Cora's Quilts.

There's a new mystery quilt along in town!  Just in time for back-to-school fun.  You can find all the details at Cora's Quilts here.  Grab a button here.  Quilt along with us!

More New Chicks

Three weeks ago I took 23 eggs to a lady I found on Craigslist.  Six of them were Maran eggs that I purchased on Craigslist -- thank you, Craigslist.  She put them in her incubator for me and only charged me $1 for each chick that hatched.  Nine chicks hatched!

I have electric in my coop.  I wanted to put these in the brooder side of my coop until the brood hen hatches her eggs around 8/11 or 8/12.  But something is making the breaker blow and I don't have electricity temporarily.  Luckily I was easily set up for operation in the kitchen.  You can tell that it wasn't a big disappointment to our 8-year old.
