Scrap Saturday 5.31.14

It's the last week for the green for this Scrap Saturday.  Of course I started a new scrappy project when I saw there was going to be a Bonnie Hunter quilt on the cover of Quiltmaker Magazine!  Anything goes for these scraps.  Where else can you use Christmas cats, Christmas ribbons and bows, cheerleaders, Lady Liberty, sailboats, dolls and more?  Yes, a Bonnie Hunter quilt!

Here are some of my green units:

Here's a sample block that I made.  The quilt is called Wanderlust by Bonnie Hunter.  The block pictured below has two green units (Christmas cats and Cheerleaders).

Friday Finish 5.30.14 -- Thomas #2

Here's the second Thomas the Train panel quilt that I finished for our local quilt guild.  Now I will turn in both quilts.  I hope that they go to twin boys at the local children's hospital NICU.  I quilted and finished them both the same.  I like the red thread on the white back.  It really shows off the quilting.

I'm happy to link up today's finish with Richard and Tanya Quilts for the Link-A-Finish FRIDAY.

Flower Block

Here's a paper-pieced flower block.  I did this block for my local quilt guild's challenge quilt.  It wasn't big enough.  I used all the backing material that I had.  Here's one for the orphan block pile.

You can find this pattern at http://www.paperpanache.com/index.htm.  It is called Little Tulip Basket.

WIP Wednesday 5.28.14

After today there are only two more days of school for this year.  I did manage to finish quite a bit of odds and ends this week!

I finished one Thomas the Train panel for our LQG.

I've been very, very busy with my new PETS!  I know they are farm fowl, but I LOVE them already.
I added 13 chickens to my four peeps.  Here's some of them.  I'm busy building fun little shelters and things for their pen and coop.

My helper is getting a kick out of it too!

I made three "cheater" Drunkard's Path blocks for the Building Blocks QA.

I got all caught up on ALL of the remaining blocks for the Spring Sampler @ Cora's Quilts:

I worked on this little scrap project for the RSC14.  It's called Petit Jardin.

I collected green scraps for the RSC14 to make a Petit Jardin wall hanging from March/April '10 Quiltmaker  Magazine.

The Chickens Are Here! 5/24/14

This holiday weekend was pretty exciting.  I got CHICKENS!!!  I'm very excited about them.

Here they are in their new home.  The younger six chickens are probably about a month apart from each other are in the dog kennel and have their own run (2 from a friend, 4 I raised as chicks).  The rest of the chickens get to old garden and the other half of the coop.  Eventually I will fence in a small area still in the garden so that I can plant some tomatoes, peppers and such.  I know I'll need a little fence so that the flock doesn't get it.  I'll put that up sometime this week.

Owen was really excited to come out with me to care for the chickens.  Hence the pajamas.

The first morning treat is a bowl of "going bad" cottage cheese.  Here's the first three explorers.

Guess the cottage cheese was a hit.  The rest wanted some too.

Since the chickens are going through some shock from being moved, I thought I would try to incorporate these two feed boxes as nesting boxes.  I think this hen has the idea.

Here they are getting moved (by my husband) to their new place.  The original idea was to put the coop inside the fence.  We couldn't get enough lift to get it over the fence.  We settled to put it outside the fence, cut the fence, and button them in the fenced area.  I think this will work out best in the long run.

Here they are at their original location (still at my friend's house).  They are all pretty happy.

My friend and her family are moving.  I asked to buy all of her chickens and coop and supplies.  I bought them around January.  They are finally here (5/24/14).

Spring Sampler Block 3

I'm finally caught up with all of my Spring Sampler blocks at Cora's Quilts.  This is block 3.  It is called Tombstone.

Here's the rest of the blocks:

Scrap Saturday -- 5.24.14

I grabbed and cut a bunch of greens for a new little wall hanging.  I don't plan on finishing this one any time soon.  There are a ton of paper-pieced 2" and 3.5" flowers to be made.  But all of the greens are done!  The pattern is called Petit Jardan.  It is in Quiltmaker Magazine, March/April '10.  #132.

I love this little watering can!

Blogger's Quilt Festival -- Frosty & Friends

I am entering my Frosty & Friends Quilt in the SMALL quilt category at the Blogger's Quilt Festival at Amy's Creative Side.  This quilt finished 12/13/13.  It is 27" x 35".  This quilt was a Christmas gift for my son's kindergarten teacher.

This is a pattern by Debbie Mumm.  It is in a book from 1992 called Quick Country Quilting.   You can also find a FREE pattern on Debbie Mumm's site FREE here.

I backed it with a simple holiday fabric from JoAnn Fabrics and added a hanging sleeve. Here's the back:

My son loves the Elf on the Shelf story.  You can see that I had a little help from our Elf on the Shelf, Chippy.

I longarm quilted it quickly with my go-to pattern, Circle Lord Swirls.  I was hoping that the swirls weren't too big for the snowmen.  I just looks like a really windy day and gives the quilt motion.

Scrappy Christmas QA -- Blogger's Quilt Festival

I am entering my Scrappy Christmas Quilt-Along Quilt in the SCRAPPY quilt category at the Blogger's Quilt Festival at Amy's Creative Side.  I LOVE this Christmas quilt!  I made it during a quilt along.  You can find the quilt instructions at Sunshower Quilts.  Katrina blogs here.

I finished this quilt on December 20, 2013.  Here's the back:

Chasing Chevrons -- Blogger's Quilt Festival

I am entering my Chasing Chevrons quilt in the Modern quilt category at the Blogger's Quilt Festival at Amy's Creative Side.

Here's my Chasing Chevrons QA quilt.  Thank you, Jennifer, from That girl... that quilt...  blog for sharing your pattern and hosting this quilt along!  This QA started sometime in November, 2011.  I finished the quilt top on time with the QA, but never finished the quilt because I was afraid to quilt it.  I now have the confidence to do an all over stippling pattern on a big quilt!  Whohoo!  I love freehand stippling!  It measures a nice 71" x 71".  I have to admit that this was not really one of my favorite quilts, but now that it is quilted I love it.  Quilting really made this quilt!  I finished it 4/19/13

In the photo the blue-background chevrons in the center get lost.  They don't seem as lost in real life.  The blocks were all cut with my Accuquilt GO! Baby dies.  That's how I got the smooth finish of the chevrons vs. a bunch of HST.

Here's the simple back.
