#100Days100Blocks2017

#100Days100Blocks2017 will start on May 7.  You can read all the details on our hostess (Angie's) blog, Gnome Angel HERE.  Here's a photo from Angie's blog of the Tula Pink book we are using.  I'm lucky enough that I can get the book from my local library!  Whooohoo!
#100Days100Blocks2017 - Accept the challenge, make all 100 Blocks from Tula Pink's City Sampler in 100 Days. Win big prizes and more! See more www.GnomeAngel.com

I'm excited about this QA because it was one I started in 2015.  I made these blocks back in 2015 for a QA with Michele at Crayon Box Quilt Studio for the City Sampler at Your Own Pace QA.   Then that was it.  It had been so long ago that I forgot my color scheme and everything.  I did run across the blocks last week while looking for another old project and cleaning my quilting shelf.

This is an old WIP!  I don't feel like I am starting a new project.  Only 11 of 100 blocks are done.

The new QA, #100Days100Blocks2017 will be a block a day.  Blocks will be made in numeric order.  Each day you post your block on Instagram.  I am very new to Instagram.  I've had an account for a while, but just learned how to post a picture to it with the app on my phone yesterday.  Here I come, social media.  LOL.

Come join the fun on May 7th!

Scrappy Stars Are on the Frame Today

Today I'm playing with another pantograph that I recently purchased as a big box of 'em from the APQS forums.  This one didn't have a name on it.  I'm practicing on my Scrappy Stars quilt that was part of an RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) project.

Big O -- And my Helper

It was a little chilly (51 degrees F) here in Ohio.  My husband texted me that he "turned the furnace on".  That meant that he wanted to work in the garage while I quilted.  My Nolting 23" longarm is not in the house that we live in, but in the house that is a WIP...  I didn't plan on quilting, but since the furnace was on I decided to walk up to the other house.

I have had my Big O (blocks won in the Block Lotto on 12.31.2014) ready to be quilted for a while and I decided I wanted to play with my Circle Lord Square Dance Giant Template Board.

Here's a close-up shot of the quilting.  Believe it or not, this is my first quilt with a black background.  I'm quilting it with black thread.

Here's the back of my machine (table) showing the Circle Lord Square Dance Giant Template Board.

All of a sudden my "helper" wanted to "play".

He started to take over!  He liked following the maze.  His stitches are a little squiggly, but I'm leaving them there.  When I showed my husband the stitches he made IN THE CENTER OF THE QUILT, my husband told me that this is now one of his favorite quilts.

I've never posted a video on my blog, but this is how easy it is to use the Circle Lord boards.

When we walked back down the path to the house we live in, Owen wanted to take a picture of today.  This is the view from our front porch of the house we live in and down the driveway.  Oh how I just LOVE how everything is getting greener, finally!  The lilacs are starting to bloom already.

Slow Sunday Stitching -- Homestead Harvest 4.23.17

Ahhh!  The progress is really starting to show.  I need to stitch another set of little berries (or buds?) down -- circles none the less and then there's only ONE MORE SECTION of circles!!!  I'm excited!

I am so happy I found the group at Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.  I would have never attempted a project like this.  I'm so happy that I did.  I love the fact that instead of finding more projects in books and adding more UFO's to the list that I am actually making something gorgeous.  I am just loving the process and learning as I go.  Click by and check out all the other GORGEOUS projects at today's linky party here.

I started this project in December, 2016.  The pattern is called Homestead Harvest.  Below is a picture of the quilt I am making.  I am learning applique.  The pattern is from the book Simple Appeal, 14 Patchwork and Applique Projects for Everyday Living by Kim Diehl.

RSC17 -- 4.22.17

This week I made three more challenge blocks for my local quilt guild (and they aren't even due until September, 2017!)

Garden Party (pattern by Bonnie Hunter in her latest book, Addicted to Scraps) grew one more row this week.  These little blocks are addicting.  I started two boxes of 1.5" strips (neutrals & prints) and two boxes of 2.5" strips (neutrals and prints) to see how I like Bonnie's scrap user's system.  AGAIN, Bonnie knows how to be productive.  These little blocks are multiplying like crazy using that system.  I just know when this quilt is done I'll have piece parts ready for an Idaho Square Dance quilt!  Yeah!  I'm not cutting all the scraps just yet, but these four boxes will keep me busy for a while.

Look at those multi-colored fabrics!  Flowers, flags, Sesame Street, Christmas Bulbs, Monopoly money, plaids, prints, solids -- Oh my!

I'm linking up for the RSC17 on Angela's blog, SoScrappy.  Click over there for lots of inspiration!  The RSC17 linky party for this week is here.

Tumbler Rug #2 -- A Friday Finish

I'm happy to report another finish today.  It's Tumbler Rug #2.  I didn't know I liked making rugs so much.  This one is a little fancier with a border than Tumbler Rug #1.

I quilted it with a larger overall stipple a bit bigger than my thumb.

I used this slightly heavy fabric for the back.  It's something somebody gave to me.  It might be upholstery fabric, but I'm not sure.

It fits nicely in front of my sink.

Last week was the first time I washed Denim Tumbler Rug #1, finished 3.17.17.  Boy does it wash up nicely!  I have a feeling I have a few friends that are going want a set of these too for Christmas (but not this year.)  I think they would make a nice gift.  Hopefully I'll score some brown/black/green jeans at summer garage sales for some earth tone rugs.  It measures 28" x 42".

Pat Sloan Soltice Challenge Block 18/25

Here's block #18 of 25 of Pat Sloan's Solstice Challenge.  It's called On the Go.  Again, I am using all my red/white scraps.  I used flying geese instead of the HST's in the pattern.  Linking up with Pat Sloan on her blog here.

Presidential Challenge -- The Underpants Project

Our local quilt guild had a "presidential challenge".  They called it this because we were supposed to work on them around Presidents' Day.  They are really for a quilt show in July.  The challenge was to use a magazine page to inspire us to create a 30" x 30" (or so) quilt.  I thought I would kill two birds with one stone (as I often try to do) and use my Underpants Project block to make this quilt.

I used this applique tool.  It's called Judy's Applique Gem.  I got it here at Gadget Girls.  I thought it would make a nice stocking stuffer for me a couple years ago at Christmas.  This is the first time I used it.  It was really nice to help me follow the unusual curve of the underpants.  The little straight part of the ruler also helped me with the straight part.

I did a simple outline of the panties and then just a small stippling everywhere else.

Here's the ad I'm going to put with it for the show:

Tumbler Rug #2

Bonnie Hunter had a tumbler challenge a while back.  I worked on denim tumblers.  I started making a set of rugs for the kitchen (because all denim quilts are so heavy.)  Tumbler rug #2 is now on the longarm frame.  I am quilting it with an all-over stipple.

I'm using a heavy duty back for it.  The cotton backing that I used on Tumbler Rug #1 is holding up.
