Bluepatch Quilter Mystery Quilt Progress

I'm all caught up on the Bluepatch Quilter Mystery Quilt.  Whew,  plaiting was cool!  I may have to actually do that for a border!  My quilts always seem to have to be bigger than what the person suggesting the pattern has it.  Here's this week's blocks:
Here's everything:

I'm guessing we're about half way done or a little more.  I'm sure Sheila has a better way of putting this together!

We Can Do It Skill Builder Sampler Block #6

Woohoo!  A second block was made today.  I'm all caught up on the We Can Do It Skill Builder Sampler.  Here's block #6 -- Bow Ties:
Here's all six blocks so far.  I'm glad I have this picture for reference to see what colors I need in the next few blocks.  I'm very happy with my color selections right now!

Love this block for the We Can Do It Skill Builder Sampler quiltalong.  I did modify the center to showcase another owl.  No sunshine today for a photo :(

Jungle Babies Interactive Baby Quilt

Today was an exciting day.  I finally finished the Jungle Babies Quilt that I started over a month ago.  I think my niece will be happy.  Here it is:                     (See bottom of this post for zucchini casserole recipe!)
This is the insteractive back.  There are little things that a baby would like such as little loops for toys.

Here's the only part I'm not sure of, but at this point it's staying.  It's a monkey tail.

Gotta love a link-a-do holder.
 Here's an interesting giraffe tail.
The front is made from panels I purchased at JoAnn Fabrics.  It was supposed to be a book.  You can read the front of the quilt like a book.

All ready to go to Saturday's baby shower.  Can't wait to see it with Camden on it!

WIP Wednesday #36

Even though we went camping for six days I still managed to keep up on a few things... I took things to cut while camping.  I actually cut out two quilts that I will make for charity (baby quilts) using the Sunflower Seeds pattern that I did previously--such a great jelly roll quilt!  When I got home I magaged to sew a few blocks for my quiltalong obligations.

For the Summer Sampler Series I am all up to date.  Here are blocks 3 and 4:
This monochromatic color scheme is really maroons.  The picture shows the stripes a little lighter than what it really looks.

Here's block 4 for the We Can Do It Skill Builder Challenge:
I only did one block for the 36 Block Quiltalong with Crazy Mom Quilts.  I'm not sure if I will continue this quiltalong due to time restraints.

I need to get my priorities straight.  I need to finish row 2 of the Rocking Robin quiltalong.  Row 3 came out this week and I haven't even started.

My niece's baby shower is 7/30.  I really need to concentrate on the Jungle Babies quilt, but I just can't bring myself to get motivated to do it.

I won something!!! Thanks, Jolly Jabber!

Thanks, Jolly Jabber!  I won a book to help me bust my stash.

I can't wait to get it in the mail!

This week has been a little trying on the Rockin' Robin row 2.  I'm not happy with my fabric combinations.  I think when I get home from vacation I will start over on this row.  Here's what it looks like so far at 3/4 of the way done.  For the third section I was going to do three 6" stars on the section.

Then there's the Summer Sampler Series.  Block 1 is the Virginia Block.  I am  happy with my color choices.  I am doing this quilt going with a monochromatic color scheme using garage sale fabrics that I got this summer.

Then there was the Bluepatch Quilter Mystery Quilt block this week.  Grrrr.  Sewing in the wee hours of the morning before going on vacation and my pinwheel is spinning the wrong way.  I will probably leave it as it is.  I don't think anyone would notice in my family.  It's not a quilt show quilt.  This block really needs pressed again.  Can you tell I folded it and put it in the box before the picture?  Here it is:

We Can Do It Skill Builder Sampler Bonus Block

This week Leila discussed how to figure out how to make your own block.  I was pretty excited this week because I have been wanting to reproduce a block that my grandma used on a quilt (probably in the 50's or early 60's -- maybe even sooner...)  I could have easily looked on Quilt Blocks Galore for the Dutchman's Puzzle.  Instead I put it on graph paper.  I'm glad I did because now I can recreate my grandma's block.  The internet shows the block at a finished 12".  That is what I made.  BUT my grandmother's block is 9" finished and I wouldn't have known how to figure it.  Thanks, Leila.  Here's the 12" (12.5") block:

OOPS!  Rotate the block so that the dark orange is at the top left (or 90 degrees clockwise) and then it will look like the drawing...

Here's a few pics of the quilt that my grandma made years ago.  It is all hand sewn.  There were no rotary cutters.  She must have made the quilt so that I would fit the bed; there is a half row in there.  The bottom row looks like she sewed it upsidedown.  Now that I think of it, this quilt could be much much older.  I don't have any idea and all I have to go by is the fabric.  Any guesses?  It might have been made by my great grandmother... I'm not really sure.  My grandmother had so many "grand champion" quilts from the Ohio State Fair that each of her grandkids have one or two of them.  The skills on this quilt don't match those quilts.  I guess I'll never really know.  Here's some pics anyways...

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way the center of this quilt was done with straight line quilting and then the borders are different.  I won't have to decide how I want to quilt the one I would love to make.  BUT mine will all be by machine.

Kaleidoscope Quiltalong in Pink

The kaleidoscope quiltalong top has been pieced.  I was very leary of putting all pinks together like this.  I decided to place them randomly.  I didn't even lay the blocks out on the floor before sewing it.  I just tried to do the solids in a light/dark pattern even though I knew I had more lights than darks.  Well, the result is that I LOVE the way it came out.  It still needs pressed.  I had to get it outside for a picture between raindrops today.  The center of each block is still a little humpy.  Hopefully that will work out when I sandwich it and stretch it just a tidge.  I'm not really thrilled with sewing angles other than 90 and 45 degrees yet.  I think if I would have bought a template instead of trying to make one out of cheap template material I would have been happier with cutting the pieces.  Now I need to decide on a small border and back to make it just a little bigger.  Off to root through my pinks...

Rockin Robin Quilt-along Row 1

Yes, I started ANOTHER quiltalong.  Hopefully this will be a little scrap buster for me and an extra baby girl quilt to have on hand (or use it to donate to charity for my local quilt guild.)  What's one more row per week - four blocks????  Here's the first row:

I like the 3D frame around the block.

WIP Wednesday #36

This week was quite productive for odds and ends plus one BIG project.  Today I finished rows 3 and 4 of the Victoriana Quilt Designs Fabric Party Quiltalong  http://www.victorianaquiltdesigns.com/VictorianaQuilters/BlockoftheMonth/VQDFabricParty.htm
I really like the colors on this quilt, it's the Seaglass Jellies and bundles from JoAnn Fabrics with just a couple of my others thrown in to break up all of the prints.
I decided to get in on the Kaleidoscope quiltalong with Don't Call me Betsy at http://dontcallmebetsy.blogspot.com/2011/05/come-join-kaleidoscope-quilt-along.html  Right now I don't know exactly how I'm going to do the colors.  It's just pink prints and more pink prints...  The solids are just multiple shades of pink.  Boring, boring, boring.  I am making it baby quilt size.
I am pleased with completing the We Can Do It Skill Builder Sampler Block #3.  LOVE my colors on this quiltalong as well.  Block #3 is the Churn dash on the left in the photo.  Here it is with it's friends.  Get the details at http://sewnbyleila.blogspot.com/

I also made my five sets of blocks for the block lotto for July already!  Yes, it has been a busy week!
http://www.blocklotto.blogspot.com/
And for the grand finale this week, I finally sandwiched my Country Kitties California King quilt.  Wheeee!
It's ready and waiting to take over the kitchen table for quilting some day.   http://www.free-quilting.com/detail.html?code=FQ00052&cat_id=1
Yes, I'm still joining quiltalongs and such.  But I am also keeping up on them.  What's one more block/row per week?  Ha ha.  When will I learn?

We Can Do It Skill Builder Sampler - Block 3

Block 3 is called Churn Dash.  Great job, Leila, in describing two different methods of half square triangles.  I prefer the cut to size method (today...)  You can see her post at http://sewnbyleila.blogspot.com/

I made it without looking at the colors used in my other blocks.  I knew that the blue with the brown specks was my background, but I didn't realize that I used the dark brown in all the blocks.  Apparently I like that color.  It was a remnant from JoAnns.  Looks like I need to dig into my stash a little more for some variations of brown.  But I still LOVE it.  I will have plent more blocks to incorporate other browns.  The next block will probably have some of my orange tones in it as well.  Here it is.
Here it is hanging out with its friends so far:

I think I have selected fabrics for the Summer Sampler Series Quiltalong.  I'm not sure about the top color (it may have too much red in it.)  I think I will find a few calicos that will blend in with these in my stash.  Except for the muslin type background ($3 of fabric) I got the rest of this stash at two different garage sales this summer.  Other fabric was about $2.75.  So far I have $5.75 in this quilt.  Gotta love that.  I plan to use many many more of my garage sale finds in future quiltalongs.  I need to build my skills before I start shopping at quilt stores for fabrics.
