Finally.  This block is done.  I won't be posting about it every Sunday.  All the little flowers are stitched!  I still just LOVE the fabric I found in the scrap bin for those side trees -- perfect!  Read the purple part below to see how you can win a PRIZE!

This block is block #4 for the first pattern in the book Welcome Home ~~ Surround Yourself with Country Warmth, by Cheryl Wall.  I am working on the Welcome Home Sampler Quilt.

RSC16 -- Purple Vote for #38! HELP

I only made four little purple blocks with scraps this week.  This purple swirl fabric was the only purple scrap I came across while working on charity quilts lately.    I've been busy longarming for the guild.  I got 12 charity quilts longarmed for August!  Whohoo!

Cool Chicks

Have you ever tried to take pictures of chicks?  These chicks are about three weeks old.  They LOVE watermelon.  When you throw a quilt down and hope to get a picture, they run onto the quilt, take a bite of watermelon, poop, go crazy, and run off the quilt.

But it's fun to join in on the fun at Lily Pad Quilting: Pets on Quilts.  We are considered the "other pets" category.  There are also categories for cats, dogs, and pet-themed quilts.

These two chicks remain nameless right now.  They are dining on my Star Light, Star Bright QA quilt that I did with Melissa Cory at Happy Quilting.  You can read more about it here.

Quacks on Quilt!

It's time to join in on the fun at Lily Pad Quilting: Pets on Quilts.  This is my first year to participate, but I have ahhhhed and ahhhhed over others pets.  I am in the "other pets" category with my five ducks on a quilt.

My ducks (left to right) are Emma, Maisy, Jordon, Grey, and Pepperoni.  The chicken in the forefront of the picture is Orange.  Wiggles the rooster and a few others watch from the rear of the picture.  Pepperoni is a drake (male) and the other four are females (did you know that a female duck is just called a duck?)

It was easy to lure the ducks onto the quilt with the watermelon.  It was also easy to get them all to look at me at the same time because I made the noise my rooster makes when he sees a hawk in the sky.  They all freeze and look.  Say cheese... I mean quack!

They all have distinct personalities.  I was amazed at the differences when I first started raising chickens and ducks over three years ago.  Grey is the most friendly and adventurous.  Maisy was the first duck I purchased.  Her partner was eaten by a fox this spring. :(  I purchased four ducklings the next day to keep her company.  Ducks are very social.  Maisy doesn't mind hanging with the ducks or the chickens.

All of them just love watermelon.  It's been such a great season for watermelon this year here in Ohio.  They are dining on my Nested Churn Dash table topper.  Don't worry.  I washed it right away after the fun photo and it's all good.  I made the Nested Churn Dash during a quilt along with Quilt Jane.

Check out all the other cute pets here.

WIP Wednesday 8.17.16

Today I'm linking up with Mama Spark's World and WIPs with Friends.  Another productive week!

I finished this beautiful quilt for a customer (quilting and binding).

Quilts have been flying on and off the longarm.  Here's some pictures of what got quilted this week.

I finished my challenge block for our local guild challenge, Shoot for the Stars:

I only got a few purple blocks done for the RSC16.

I got 25 baby chicks to keep me busy.

I got another block ready for my to-go bag.  This one will be a tree with a bunch of leaves and a cro on top.  I will have plenty of hand stitching to do while waiting on the bus, speech, cub scouts, other students, lunch...  Glad I have this block ready!

Here's the prize I won at July Let's Book It Challenge at Vrooman's Quilts.  Isn't the little windmill star adorable?  These arrived this week in the mail.

I finished my Drunkard's Path blocks for the Summer Solstice QA at Happy Quilting.  I use the no-pin method that I saw on YouTube to put them together.  They went together lickety split!

Just Charming Happy Mail!

Last week these adorable Just Charming charm and charm holder arrived in the mail.  They were a prize for winning July Let's Book It Challenge at Vrooman's Quilts.  Isn't the little windmill star adorable?

Flying Quilts

Guild charity quilts are flying on and off the frame so fast I haven't hung them on the clothesline to get photos yet!

This quilt wasn't my favorite to quilt.  The blocks have bias edges and they are stretching everywhere.  It seems I am quilting blocks that are either mountain or valley on each row.  Not all of them are flat.  I'm quilting it with Circle Lord Jesters.  The quilting pattern isn't too tight that I can wiggle in there and kinda flatten the blocks.  Keeping my fingers crossed that the borders don't get too stretched at the end.  Whew.

The pieces in this quilt was in one of our guild project bags.  Another member had the patience to put it together and add a border.  It will be a nice quilt for someone to snuggle with!

Pretty and Purple

This quilt is pretty and purple.  It is a charity quilt for the guild.  I like the way the Circle Lord Loopys design is looking on this border!

Then I couldn't help myself and did some more.

Before I knew it, it was done!

The ladies in our guild did a FABULOUS job piecing this back.  It's beautiful!

Another on the Frame (and Off!)

Knocking them off one by one for the guild... here's another twin-sized quilt on the frame.  This one is about 53" by 80" or so.  It is HST's to form a diamond and four patches.

I'm quilting it with giant free-hand stipples.  It should be done in no time.

I'm happy to report that I finished quilting this quilt and have passed it on to another guild member (Sherri) for binding.  This is going to be a sweet charity quilt for someone!

These last two photos I must have had moisture on the camera lens.  They are not dull in the middle.

Let's Try Again

We have six fox living on our property.  It's tough not to have an all-you-can-eat buffet of chickens.  I had two major fox massacres.  I lost eight or nine birds on the first attack and eight or nine birds on the second.

This weekend we went on a little road trip a little over an hour away to get some Craigslist chicks.  I wasn't getting very good communication via text with the Craigslist seller.  When I finally called I realized that the ad was placed by a 15 year old boy.  He was on vacation.  His grandma was taking care of his chickens for him.  It's cool that he loved his school project last spring so much that he brought home the school incubator and hatched different breeds of chickens over the summer for sale to make money to buy a car when he turned 16.  His grandmother said the they had Orpingtons and Grey Speckled Wyandottes.  I really don't think by the coloring that these are those breeds.  I think they are barnyard mix.  The mom of the 15-year old supposedly sexed the chicks.  We'll see in a few months if I got mostly hens.

Here's some pictures of the next generation.  I got 25 chicks in all.  They were only $1 each!

I know this is quite picture heavy, but I need some place to load all these pictures to see what the chicks looked like (by coloring) to see what adult birds I get.

I think the two light colored chicks in this picture are the Orpingtons?
