RSC20 -- Still Finishing the Orange in February

I'm still finishing up sewing the box kite (a Bonnie Hunter pattern) blocks in orange from February.  I did sneak two teal centers in to keep it official.  ~ wink wink

Last week we went to see the Cleveland Cav's.  It was a fun event.

Our seats were up above the heater ducts.  But the tickets were FREE--courtesy of the Up Side of Downs (USOD--a Down Syndrome Support Group in the Greater Cleveland area).  Thank you!

It's always fun to get a free t-shirt.  Kids that went out on the floor to high-five the players as they entered the court for warm-ups all wore a white shirt like this:

Our group was merged with another group.  It was a blend of friends.

In the picture below is Owen and Hartly.  Hartly is older than Owen.  He got separated from his mom because the parents could not be next to the kids in the "high-five tunnel".  Owen stayed with Hartly and told him it would be okay and stood where we started until we could catch up with them.  I am SUPER PROUD that Owen was kind and took care of his friend that he just met.

Another reason that kids got separated from parents were these stairs.  The people leading kids to the floor took us down these stairs, which is fine... but most people don't realize that that it takes extra cognitive skills to walk up and down stairs alternating your feet left, right, left, right...  Owen takes steps two at a time sometimes.  But it is often taken for granted how much ability our brains do for us when it comes to coordination.  Sometimes kids can only go up and down stairs leading with the same foot and then catching up with the other foot.  It takes much longer to do stairs that way.

I'm thankful for the world of digital photos.  This is how our photo sessions usually start out with Owen making a goofy sign or somehting.

Then we have the funny smile that my husband taught him for some reason.

Finally... take 3.  We have a family selfie.  LOL.

I'm linking up at Angela's blog, SoScrappy for the RSC20.

That looks like it was a fun evening! There are so many things people don't know about people with special needs, and I bet the organizers learned from all of you that night. Your blocks are looking great, too!

That arena looks just like the Pistons/Red WIngs Arena in Detroit. Gotta love those heater seats! Looks like everyone had a good time.

What a great evening for everyone. Love the name Up Side of Downs. You are si right that we take for granted how our brains work and certainly not all brains work alike! Your Box Kites look fabulous!
