LQG Baskets Charity Quilt

To move this WIP forward I made a back for a basket quilt that was on the local quilt guild "to be quilted" pile.  It's a simple pieced back with big chunks of leftovers from the remnants box.

 

I like to make the backs extra long just in case I change my mind which Circle Lord giant board I will be using.  Some of the boards need extra to avoid pinning and such.  I'll just use the excess on another quilt.

Slow Sunday Stitching -- Embroidery: A New Frontier

Happy Mother's Day!

 

 

I'm starting a new adventure with my Slow Sunday Stitching.   As you can see the block needs some embroidery for the kite strings and flower stems.  I'm ready to tackle it.  (I also need to make one more kite girl!)



 

 

I made these Kite Girl blocks during the RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) in 2014. It is an old WIP or UFO (Work in Progress or Unfinished Object.)  The block is made from 2" squares.  The block pattern can be found at Q is for Quilter blog. 

 

So I have put the patchwork blocks into my to-go bag (#sewtogo on Instagram) and started to learn to chain stitch.  Here's some of my stem progress this week:

Whoops!  I wondered why my floss kept getting short so fast.  I thought I was stitching fast.

RSC17 Green Scrappy Saturday

Green is an abundant scrap in my scrap bin.  Actually blue and green scrap need the largest storage tubs.  Here's what I played with this week:

I made two Fortune Teller blocks from the book Sunday Morning Quilts by Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryl Arkison to go with the others I have done with RSC in the past.  They will fit right in!

May 7 started the #100blocks100days2017 on Instagram. 

 

More plus blocks.  I need to dig out the blocks I have and start putting them together, figuring out how to use plusses in the sashing.

Do You Want to See My Underpants? -- A Friday Finish

I can't believe that I completed this little wall quilt.  I was motivated to finish it because I needed a challenge quilt for my local quilt guild for a quilt show in July.  I call this quilt The Underpants Project.

It measures a happy little 35" wide by 27" long.

This is finish #17 for 2017!

The way I outline quilted the underwear on the front it left little "ghost" underwear on the back.

 

Here you can tell the size a little better. 

 

This was one of the quilts that I had planned to finish this quarter.  I posted about it in my Finish-A-Long 2017 Q2 Goals Post here.

Many of you know that I'm an Accuquilt girl.  I made these blocks using my Accuquilt Drunkard's Path die!  I did a little tutorial in 2014 here.

Aren't these blocks just stinkin' cute?  For the longest time I didn't know what I would do with them.  I was originally inspired by Kim's Blog called My Go-Go Life and she showed an adorable paper-pieced bra.  Kim posted that the pattern was free at Paper Panache. .  She posted about a free pattern and tutorial for panties by Penny from Sew Take A Hike.   You can see it here.  I need to give credit to Penny where credit is due.




I used this applique tool.  It's called Judy's Applique Gem.  I got it here at Gadget Girls.  I thought it would make a nice stocking stuffer for me a couple years ago at Christmas.  This is the first time I used it.  It was really nice to help me follow the unusual curve of the underpants.  The little straight part of the ruler also helped me with the straight part. 

 

I did a simple outline of the panties and then just a small stippling everywhere else.

WIP Wednesday 5.10.17

Is it summer vacation yet?  Fourteen more school days!  Whoop whoop!  But here's what happened this week in my quilting world...

I finished my Scrappy Stars quilt made with almost all multi-colored fabrics.



I used some green scraps to make blocks for the RSC17.


My Homestead Harvest (pattern by Kim Diehl) quilt made it to the flimsy stage.

 

I showed off my H2H charity quilt that I called My Heart Skips a Beat again!



I dug out this old RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) WIP and decided to make two green blocks to finish if off.

I finally started posting quilts in the Instagram world for the #100blocks100days2017 challenge.
It started May 7th at Gnome Angel.  Here's the four this week:

 

I completed block 20 of 25 of the Pat Sloan Solstice Challenge.

 

 

I need to get my thinking cap on and figure out if I will compete in a local contest.  Sorry to post this here, but I need to make sure I have a copy of it somewhere...  I usually don't lose things on my blog.  I'm thinking it's "just" a mini quilt.  I need something green for my table in March.  It's GREEN month for the RSC, and I can't go wrong with churn dashes...  I may have a plan.

 

 

 

I made and mailed a few blocks for a block drive that Cynthia is having over at Quilting is More Fun Than Housework.  You can find the instructions for this cool string block on Cynthia's blog here.

Here's THREE blocks in orange...  I just love the idea of incorporating the sashing into the block.

String Blocks for a Block Drive

I started making a few blocks for a block drive that Cynthia is having over at Quilting is More Fun Than Housework.  You can find the instructions for this cool string block on Cynthia's blog here.

I'm jumping in to help Kat at Kat & Cat Quilts for the Covered in Love quilt drive.  I made a few blocks for it.  It was requested to make blocks in red, orange, yellow, and purple.  I'm mailing my blocks to Cynthia at Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework.  Cynthia has graciously volunteered to put the quilts together AND quilt them!  Have you ever visited her blog for Oh Scrap!  She always shares and/or has guest bloggers that have great inspiration on how to use scraps.  My kind of fun!  You can find Cynthia's tutorial HERE.  Blocks will finish at 10.5" square.
