Challenger Baseball State Tournament

This past weekend we had the Challenger Baseball State Tournament.  It was a fun event.  Challenger Baseball is for individuals with special needs.  Temperatures were in the 80's.  There were alot of events happening... baseball, a playground, lunch, games, ceremonies, snacks...  It was a lot of stimulation for some -- even me.  Sometimes people get cranky (including me and our son.)  But it was a fun event, none the less.

There was a very colorful park that our son really enjoyed.

For the most part he was happy for the day.

Sometimes you just need to back up and chill out.  This was between games.  There was a cool breeze blowing through my truck!

Being real... exposing all my chins (and necks...).

He's tall enough to cheat on the monkey bars now.

Wings of Spring -- A Block Lotto Quilt

I won the Wings of Spring blocks in the Block Lotto back in March (2019).  I only needed one more block to make the suggested quilt layout by Sophie.   A couple of blocks are turned a little differently than Sophie's layout -- those were an accident  a design choice.  This quilt top is coming together quickly!

It is my goal to finish this quilt for the month of August.  It's going to be a busy month.  My husband is on vacation for a few weeks.  Our anniversary is coming!  This is my birthday month.  School starts on 8/21.  I hope to have to can tomatoes this summer.  I love canning!  This is my OMG August goal to finish this quilt.

Slow Sundy Stitching

Today I'm working on putting the binding on this Cafe' Mocha quilt.  Machine stitch first...  I'm being bold with this quilt and using this oddball green for the binding.  I don't usually contrast like this.

This is what it looks like.  You can read more about it here.  It's my OMG! quilt for July.

RSC19 Pink Owl's Well That Ends Well

This week I had time for two 12.5" blocks (12" finished) for my Owl's Well That Ends Well project.  Again I posed the wings just to be different and give the quilt some interest.  I love seeing these blocks in different colors.  This is going to be a fun quilt when it is finished.

Inspiration is from the book Quilts for Scrap Lovers by Judy Gauthier.   I just changed the block size.  I think the original block size is 15.5" unfinished.

I found a great FREE PATTERN site this week.  It had a lot of red/white/blue inspiration!  Check it out here.

The Ugly Quilt Has Been Renamed "Cafe' Mocha"

I searched back to October 14, 2012!!! and found these pictures for the Ugly Fabric Challenge.  It's late Thursday night, but I'm happy that I finished putting the borders on it early this morning. :)  I love the looks and feel of this quilt.  It is no longer going to be deemed the Ugly Quilt.  I will be calling it Cafe' Mocha because that is the pattern name by Amanda Murphy Designs.

I also loaded it onto the longarm frame.  Won't be long now...

Since this quilt has a feminine feel (in my opinion) I decided to quilt it with my Circle Lord giant template board called Cosmos.  It's a floral and swirl design.  Below is a pic from behind the longarm.

I have a super important job of waiting for a FedEx delivery tomorrow for my husband.  It's a signature required delivery.  I know that there is an option that I can pre-sign for it online...  Let's not do that.  Let's find a seat hmmmm say like from my sewing machine... hmmmm where I have to sit and wait facing the driveway.  SWEET!!!  My kinda job.  I may have to be at my sewing machine for HOURS tomorrow.  I may have a Friday finish if  I'm lucky.

If worse comes to worse and I run out of sewing... Kevin the Quilter released clue #2 to the SSSSQ today.  Did you see the pic of Cheerleader Kevin?  He's rockin' it!

Here are the fabrics I started out with...

I added these and just a couple of mauves/maroons to it...

WIP Wednesday, July 24, 2019

I'm still being productive this summer and sewing up a storm.

Today I hope to finish putting borders on my "ugly fabric quilt", load it unto the longarm, and get it half quilted (I haven't thought of what quilting template to use yet--I'm leaning towards zig zags.)  I have added a border that was one of my pink fabrics, now I'm adding the cream border and next a brown border.

This is my July OMG (one main goal) project.  I was able to add several rows while working on it during the FNSI (Friday Night Sew In.)  Here's what it looked like before borders:

I'm super excited that I finally found this OMG project (above)  I had been looking for it for a month.

I made oodles of pink 4-patch blocks working with PINK scraps for the RSC19 (Rainbow Scrap Challenge).

Oh, before I forget to tell you.  I found a ton of cool FREE patterns here.  It's time to start thinking of my 2020 RSC projects!

I completed all of clue number 1 of SSSSQ (a quilt along on Kevin the Quilter's blog) in 1.5" squares.  (Yes, I am also making this quilt with 2.5" squares.)  That's a bunch more 4-patches!

This item comes off my to-do list!  I completed the longarm quilting on this customer quilt:

I made one more Wings of Spring block to complete my set of 40.  I won 39 blocks in the Block Lotto.  I ran across this project while looking for my July OMG shown above.

Cafe' Mocha -- Moving It Forward Monday with the Ugly Quilt

I'm still working on my Cafe' Mocha (Amanda Murphy pattern).  Row by row.  It's been a WIP for several years (2014ish).  The pieces need resewn because some of them are coming apart from me handling them too much back then.  But I'm still working...

I love it!

Working on it during the FNSI (Friday Night Sew In) really helped it along.

I'm laying out the pieces on the floor next to my sewing machine/computer area.  I'm hoping to disperse the different "ugly fabrics" as much as possible.  (Seriously, I'm loving the looks of this quilt.  I don't think there's anything ugly about it.)

I'm linking up at Em's Scrap Bag for Moving It Forward Monday.
