Slow Sunday Stitching -- Bear Claw

My Bear Claw block got a little bit more exciting this week as I hand stitched.  I decided to put a little zing in it using a stensil I bought approximately 46 years ago.  I remember riding my moped to Kidron, Ohio to shop at a store that sold a lot of calico fabric at the time.

I bought a pile of quilting stencils at clearanced prices.  The stencil for this one was 50 cents.  I had big dreams of quilting like my grandma one day.  At that time I pretty much only made clothes for me and for my nieces' dolls.

I marked it with my Frixion pen that removes easily when I iron it.  I LOVE it! Hmmm.  I should have paid attention to how the designs were positioned and turned two of them.  Oh well.  I still LOVE it!

I also completed stitching around one of the claws.

I think I'm going to let the border alone.  It's only 2.5". I'm sure it would be fine if I didn't stitch it at all.

I'm linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching here.

Oh, I think your grandma would love how her granddaughter stitches beautiful quilts! Your bear claw quilt is looking fabulous with the quilting. That stencil is perfect. Wow, amazing that you bought the stencil 46 years ago!

That’s the perfect stencil for this quilt. Funny that you’ve had it for so long! Cute cat fabric. Gail at the cozy quilter.

I too like your 'S' stencil. I bet you never thought you could still find that stencil and use it all those years later!!

That stencil was a perfect design, so pretty! I use a Frixon pen for marking all the time. I've never had a problem with it disappearing. Your grandmother would be so happy to see you developing a new skill!

That's the perfect design for those sections of your Bear Paw, Kathy! Your stitching is really pretty. I use a Frixion pen for tracing embroidery and quilting designs, too - I think it works great!

There is no way that you are old enough to have bought a stencil 46 years ago! I have a few of those hanging around also. I think that is a great quilt idea for your pretty Bear Paw. I never used a Frixion pen. I have to look into that. Your quilting is very pretty.
