Purple String Quilt for the Guild -- Friday Finish 2.28.14

I finished quilting another quilt for our LQG.  Yeah!!!  Another one off of my WIP list.  Counting them down one by one.  This one is quilted with swirls.  I quilted it with the popular swirls.  I think they look really nice on this quilt.  The odd thing is that I used grey thread for the quilting.  Great choice in my opinion.

I forgot to take a picture of this on the line with the back.  Here it is.  It's kinda modern for me.

I'm happy to link up today's finish with Richard and Tanya Quilts for the Link-A-Finish FRIDAY.

I'm also linking up at Such a Sew and Sew blog for the February finishing party.

Star Light Star Bright Sides

The assignment this week for the Star Light Star Bright QA is to build the block sides.  Here are my four sides positioned around the center.  These fabrics are way out of my comfort zone, but I really like them.

I'm linking up this week with Melissa at Happy Quilting.  For the weekly linky party, go here.

WIP Wednesday 2.26.14

It's been another icy, winter-weather week.  That means I got a lot done!  Check it out:

I finished two Picadilly Circle blocks with the help of the RSC14 (Rainbow Scrap Challenge '14).

I was busy longarming.  I turned in FOUR longarmed quilts to our local quilt guild (LQG).

I am going to finish this WIP that was someone else's that was mixed in with some of the scraps that I bought at a garage sale a couple of summers ago.  I quilted it on my Husqvarna sewing machine.

I have my sights on the Triangle QA that starts March 21.  Time to start another project with all these finishes!  Fabric needs to be pulled from my stash.

TriangleButton800

I got eight more blocks done on my Finding Nemo Scrappy Trip quilt.  This makes four rows.

I loaded my Star Surround quilt on the frame and finished longarming it.

I loaded my 2nd Split Decision quilt on the frame an it won't be long until that one is done.  But this leaves me with just one quilt in the "to be longarmed" box.  I better get piecing!

Finishing up all these projects and getting close to ending a couple more, I started in on the Star Light Star Bright QA at Happy Quilting.  This will be a mini quilt that will be a table topper.  This is just the center.

Star Light Star Bright QA @ Happy Quilting

I'm a couple of weeks late, but I decided to start the Star Light Star Bright QA with Happy Quilting.

I am going to make a simple one block mini quilt to put on the night stand beside the bed.  (Right now it has a Christmas mini quilt on it.)  I am using some "modern" fabrics that I won when I did the ...And Sew On BOM blocks in 2013.    These fabrics were part of a scrap bundle from Fabric Worm.  Here's the center of my block:

I'm linking up with the others at Happy Quilting here.

2nd Split Decision on the Frame

Yesterday I showed my Star Surround quilt on the frame.  It went so smoothly that I finished quilting it and loaded my 2nd Split Decision quilt on the frame while my little guy was in kindergarten.  Sadly, I'm down to just one finished quilt top to quilt in my longarm box.  Guess I better get piecing on some others.

I'm trying to get together some of the blocks that I have for finished quilts that just need some sashing and corner stones and make them my leader & ender project.  Organization is key.

Here's my 2nd Split Decision quilt that is on the frame now:

I loaded my Star Surround QA quilt on the frame.  I am quilting it with swirls.  It seems to really give those stars motion.

Another Charity Quilt Finish for our LQG

I finished longarming the last quilt in the charity bin for our LQG today.  This string quilt reminds me of what I would see on my drive 20 minutes from where I live now in Amish country.  It's beautiful solids and black -- a classic combination.  The weather was quite yucky today.  It's in the mid 30's.  Everything is frozen or dripping and starting to get a little muddy.  The wind cooperated with me enough to get these two shots:

I'm happy to link up another finish this week with Richard and Tanya Quilts for the Link-A-Finish FRIDAY.   I'm so happy to keep crossing them off the list!

LQG 1" Squares Friday Finish 2.21.14

I'm happy to finish this quilt for our local quilt guild.  As of right now the charity bin of old UFO quilt tops are all distributed!  I think I only have four more in my posession.  This quilt was all hand pieced.  I think someone from our guild sewed on the blue border.  This quilt was a bit of a challenge because it was at least 6" longer on one side.  It all worked out.  It will make somebody a nice quilt!  I quilted it with Circle Lord Swirls, of course.

Someone Else's WIP

Someone else's WIP is now my WIP.  I found this block in some of the garage sale scraps that I bought two summers ago.  I just couldn't throw it away.  I like it, but didn't know what to do with it.  I came across it again while pulling blue/green/orange strips from my stash.  It was waaaaaaaaay in the bottom of the bin.  I guess it was meant for me to find it and start working on it.  Ironically I trimmed a charity quilt today and the scrap batting was just the perfect size for it.  Coincidence?  I think not.  God must have wanted me to get the message "What kind of house will you build for me?"  Acts 7-49.

I am just doing straight line quilting across it with my walking foot.  It looks "organic".   I am a huge fan of mindless sewing.  I LOVE the calico fabric that just happened to also be right there within reach in my fabric bin.  It goes perfect with it.  I will use the calico fabric as the binding as well.  I love the X's and dashes going around the Osnaburg fabric attaching it to the border fabric.  I am going to put a hanging sleeve on it as well.  I have the perfect place for it in our bedroom on my side of the bed.

Twin Finishes for the Guild

I finished longarming two little quilts for our local quilt guild (LQG).  Time to knock two more quilts off my WIP list!

One I quilted with stippling and the other I quilted with loops.

I'm happy to link up today's finish with Richard and Tanya Quilts for the Link-A-Finish FRIDAY tomorrow, since this week's linky is closed.

Here's a yummy recipe that I'm making this weekend:

Chicken Roll Ups

Ingredients
6 oz cooked chicken breast, chopped
1 can crescent rolls
1 can cream of chicken soup
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup cheese

Directions
Preheat oven to 350.  Lightly spray a 9x13-inch pan with cooking spray.

Mix together milk, soup and cheese - set aside. Separate crescent rolls into 8 triangles. Top the large part of the crescent triangle with the chopped chicken. Top each crescent roll with 1 tsp of soup mixture. Roll crescent rolls up. Spread approximately 1/3 cup of soup mixture in bottom of 9x13 dish. Place crescent rolls in dish. Pour remaining soup mixture over crescent rolls.
Bake for 30 minutes or until bubbly.

WIP Wednesday 2.19.14

A holiday... another snow day...  Didn't get everything done this week, but I did get quite a bit done.

Chalk another one off the list.  I completed my Yahoo Groups 2012 Spring Mystery quilt!

For RSC14 I made 12 scrappy string strips that are 2.5" x about 43"!

I started working on my Finding Nemo Scrappy Trip quilt again.  I have three rows done and now I can add these six blocks to it this week.

I finished my Classic Meets Modern block for February -- LOVE it!

Six more Scrappy Trip blocks

I worked a lot yesterday making scrappy trip blocks.  I think it took so long because I went through all my stash (except for the solids) and cut more blue, green, and orange strips with my Accuquilt 2.5" strip cutter.  I have a pile of accurately cut strips and only six blocks to show for it.  Hmp.  I also started cutting the blocks with a rotary cutter instead of my strip cutter after it was sewn into a tube.  I still think it's a slow process for me.  Yet I see others just whip out these blocks.  Oh well... enjoy the ride.  Here's my six blocks:

It's time to get this Scrappy Trip on the Road again

It's time to get this Scrappy Trip quilt going again.  It is one of my February goals to work on it.  I call this one Finding Nemo because of the blues, greens, and the strip of orange in the center of each block.  I only have three rows right now.  I see so many people make tons of these blocks in one day.  I use the Bonnie Hunter scrappy trip tube method.  I guess I'm just slow at it.  I need to cut a bunch more strips.  I need 48 more blocks to make this big quilt.  I'm planning it to be 96" square.  I love big quilts.

Scrap Saturday -- Pink -- 2.8.14

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this strips yet.  I know I saw a tutorial on making something that had a white square, then a scrappy row around them and then another white square, but I just can't find it yet.  Most of these strings are less than 2.5"  A lot of them are 1" to start.  I thought it would put a big dent in my gallon Ziplock back of pink strings, but there are still plenty left.  Woot woot!

I'm linking up with the others today on Angela's blog for the RSC14!
