The New Generation 2016

Here are my spring chicks for 2016:


The next generation... 4 AMERAUCANA. 5 Barred Rock, 6 Production Red(straight run). Still hoping to find some Buff Orpingtons this week @ TSC.

AMERAUCANA

Four new AMERAUCANA chicks have found their way into my coop.  This time I am trying things a little differently.  I am starting them out in the brooder part of my coop.


My brooder is a 4' x 4' area that is sectioned off.  There is a hole between the brooder and the main part of the coop, but it is blocked off with a thick wire screen.  The chickens and chicks can see each other, but they cannot get to each other.


I do have my heat lamp on the brooder side of the coop.  It seems to be secure as to not catch it on fire.  Fire is my biggest fear right now (well, and pasty butt.)  I'm working 40 hours this week and four days next week, so I don't have as much time to monitor pasty butt like I had in the past when the chicks were in my kitchen. 


I only got four AMERAUCANA chicks.  They are from Rural King Ohio in Wooster.  A friend picked them up for me yesterday.  She got some too.  When I looked in the box there was one chick that just stuck out to me.  I loved its color and the little two-toned beak that it had.  When I put it in the coop I realized that it had pasty butt. :(

Play With Me 2016 QA

Snow Day!!!  I caught up a little with February's block is Nine Men's Morris game board.  This is the second block for this QA.  Nine Men's Morris...I'll have to Google this one.  I've never played it.

Walking the Appalachian Trail (Virtually)

I need a little motivation to get walking again.  I found this cool site called Walking 4 Fun.  I have linked it to my Fitbit.  I have decided to walk the Appalachian Trail.  Each day I walk a little more I get to see pictures of where I would have walked on the trail (taken by somebody else, of course.)  I can't wait to see where this takes me.


Today I can see myself waiting behind this guy to take my picture to measure my backpack (I have "saddle bags" on my thighs instead).





Here's my map.  I'm starting in Maine!  Can't wait to see what happens!!!

Scrap Saturday -- Brown!

Happy Scrap Saturday.


This week I played with scraps and planned to make nine snail trail blocks for the Block Lotto.  Well, there was this little incident where I was not able to sleep combined with some sewing, and a good movie (Jurassic World) and I managed to make four qualifying blocks and four CRAFT FAIL blocks.

OMG Time!

I'm linking up with  Red Letter Quilts with a project that I plan to finish this month... or so I hope.

This little quilt has been on my longarm for too long.  It's a winter scene.  It has been too cold to work on my longarm because it is in a building that we do not heat 100% of the time.  Today it's 50+ degrees -- for February!!!  I'm hoping to have my first finish of the year this month.
