Sister Sampler Quilts Block 1

There's a fun BOM going on at Gen X Quilters -- Quilt Inspiration with AnneMarie.  I'm linking up to her linky party for the January block here.  Check out all the modern blocks!  Wow!

This block is called Moon and Star Sisters.

This is the pic from Gen X Quilters blog so you can see what the whole quilt looks like.  Isn't that border great?

Scrap Saturday RSC16 The Last of the Blues

It's really not the last of the blues for me.  Blues and greens are more than double in my scrap totes than any other colors.  I should sort them by lights, mediums, and darks.  But these are the last of the blue BLOCKS this month for the RSC16.

I managed to finish the blue blocks needed for the borders for Folk Art Birds from Kathy Doughty's book, Making Quilts.

What I can show you is that I worked on these blocks.  I got the pattern from Tamarack Shack.  It's called the Low Volume Plus Sew Along.  Yes, I didn't need another sew along, but it worked so well with what I am working on.  Here's some of the blue plus blocks I made with misc. neutrals for the backgrounds.  It will be my 2016 scrap project for It All ADDS UP! #APQQuiltalong.

What I can't show you is the awesome Soul Searching block that I made for my besty on the other side of the USA.  (I'm in Ohio -- She's in California).  Julianne blogs at Quilting With Calicos .  We found each other through QA's and such.  This year we decided to do a whole quilt top and then swap the tops in the end.  It's one of the blocks that we are making for the RSC16, but we won't post the big reveal until our tops have been swapped.

I loved this quilt when I first saw the idea of it on Kevin the Quilter's blog here, in September 2013.

WIP Wednesday 1.27.16

Not a lot happened this week in my quilting world.  I schedule a day or two off to sew and someone calls and needs me to work for them.  I am really enjoying my new job.  I guess I'll sew in the summer when I'm not at the waterpark.  :)  It won't be long until the sunshine is here!!!

Here's what happened this week...

I made this adorable Aurifil 2016 Designer BOM block.  This block is called Swirl Away.  It was designed by Heather Valentine.

I also made a Folk Art Birds block from Kathy Doughty's book, Making Quilts during the FNSI.

WIP Wednesday 1.20.16

Another week in January has flown by.  Are you still following your New Year's Resolution if you made one?  I'm trying to keep up on my quilting!  Here's what happened this week:

I finished the checkerboard for the Play with Me QAL linky party.

There was some camping going on where quilts were used inside the tent in the living room.

I worked on Allietare! -- mystery quilt pattern in 2015 by Bonnie Hunter, Quiltville's Quips & Snips here.  The mystery quilt FREE pattern is available for a limited time here.

Then I worked on Allietare! some more...  It's half done!!!

This weekend I finished the five reindeer for the Quilt Doodle Designs 2016 BOM.  You can find more info on Cindi's blog, Quilt Doodle Doodles.  Aren't they cute?

I'm digging through the blues a little more today.  Check back to see what happened!

FNSI Sign-Up Time

It's time to sign up for the FNSI at Sugar Lane Designs.  Wendy is our hostess with the mostess!

I'll be working on my RSC16 block, Folk Art Birds.  Here's what a green one looks like:

This quilt is in the book Making Quilts w/Kathy Doughty.  You can find in on Amazon here.    Wish me luck in finishing my block!

Allietare! Progress -- Half Way

I made more progress on Allietare! this week.   I got all the red and yellow blocks done now.
Allietare! is a gorgeous mystery quilt pattern in 2015 by Bonnie Hunter.  Bonnie is amazing!  Check out her blog, Quiltville's Quips & Snips here.  The mystery quilt FREE pattern is available for a limited time here.

I'm half way done!!  Woop woop!

Kinda poor lighting here, but it's like 10 degrees outside and there is a 2-man tent in our living room where our son is having a "camp out" this weekend.  Hopefully I'll be able to get an outside shot next week with some pretty snow in the background.

Quilt Doodle Designs 2016 BOM - January

This weekend I finished the five reindeer for the Quilt Doodle Designs 2016 BOM.  You can find more info on Cindi's blog, Quilt Doodle Doodles.

I am going to go with all blue scraps for the quilt this year.  I love using up those scraps!

Hopefully another herd of deer will be showing up soon on the Flickr group as well!

Allietare! Progress

Progress!  I made some progress on Allietare! yesterday.  I took a day off work to just SEW!  Oh I love the snow-on-the-ground, just-gotta-sit-&-sew days!  I got all the setting triangles done and now am working on the reds.

I may have to lay out blocks on the bed if I get them done today...  Someone is "camping" this weekend in the living room.  I set up his tent while he was at school yesterday.  I've never set this type up before.  I got it at one of our local wholesale stores for $10! for him for Christmas.  It's AWESOME!!!  He does not have school today (a waiver day in which teachers go to various trainings).  Combining today and Monday (Martain Luther King Day) it's a four day weekend for him.  He is soooooo excited!

Play with Me QAL -- Checkerboard

I love the idea of this quilt along.  It's a quilt made of game boards.  What fun!  I had to jump in.  Each month for nine months a block is released.  If you make the block and post a pic, you get the pattern (design) for the next month e-mailed to you!  Sweet, huh?  I'm linking up for the Play with Me QAL linky party.
Here's my checkerboard.

Here are more details taken from the site:

WIP Wednesday 1.13.16

My new job definitely keeps me hopping (and not sewing.)  But I did manage to get a few things done this week.

I replaced of my QA's with a BOM.  I had to get rid of the Quilty 365 button and move it to the bottom.  Though it was a fun idea to do a circle a day, a block a day just isn't realistic.  The orphan blocks will find a nice home.  I did sign up for a new BOM.  It's the Play with Me 2016 QA at Alida (TweLoQ) Designs.  Here's my first block (not quite done...)  The checkerboard.  Sorry for the 3am pic... it looks crooked, but it's not.  Come back and see the finished block on Thursday! :)

Alida (TweLoQ) Designs

I counted how many spool of thread I used for 2015 -- Seventy-five!!!  What a great year.

I set some 2016 quilting goals.

I made six blocks for the Block Lotto.

75 Spools for 2015

Every year I throw my empty spools in a bag.  I don't know what I'm going to do with them.  But for now I count them.  This year was very productive.  (This does not count my longarm cone spools.)  I almost forgot to count my spools for 2015 and then remembered when I emptied my first spool for 2016 this week.

This is what 75 empty spools look like:

I had a nice pyramid-cool looking stack of spools, but when I finally wrote this post I realized that the picture was just black.  Well, this is what you get.

I didn't use all the thread on these spools myself.  When my mother-in-law passed away last January she thoughtfully left me her sewing things.  She sewed professionally.  Her work was beautiful.  It was very important to her that the thread matched each garment perfectly.  It doesn't matter to me when piecing quilt blocks.  Her thread will not go to waste.  I think of her every time I need to reach for another spool.

We miss you, Dora.

Q1 Goal Setting, 2016

Today I'm setting a lot of goals for 2016.  I know this seems like a lot of goals for the first quarter, but who knows how much I will get done during the first quarter.  These are things on my bucket list to finish for this year.  I'm linking up my Q1 Goals at She Can Quilt here.  Check out what the others are doing for the 2016 Finish-a-long!

1.  Finish Bonnie Hunter's 2015 Mystery Quilt, Allietare!  I have clues 1, 2, 3, and 5 complete.  I shall work on Clue 4 this week.

Winter Mystery 2015 - Allietare!

2.  Finish Celtic Solstice (Bonnie Hunter Mystery 2013).  The top has been complete.  The crazy pieced back still needs to be finished before quilting.

3.  Finish the brown/green/blue/cream 16-patch quilt that was part of a RSC15 (Rainbow Scrap Challenge, 2015) project.  The top is complete; the back is one fabric.  It needs to be longarmed.

4.  Finish longarming (Lisa) Customer's wall hanging quilt which is ON THE FRAME for some CUSTOM work!  This quilt will also need a binding even though it is a customer quilt.

5.  Finish December 2014 Block Lotto Big O blocks that I won 12.31.14!  The quilt has been put together as a top.  The back has been made (one fabric).  It needs to be longarmed and a binding.

6.  Finish a Customer's Flower Sampler quilt (Lisa).  This quilt needs to have the back made larger and then longarm quilted and binding.

7.  Finish a Customer's Christmas quilt (Lisa).  This quilt needs to have the back made larger and the longarmed quilted and binding.

8.  Finish Sew Sweet Simplicity (Customer Quilt) for Maxine.  The blocks are made and need to be put together and then longarmed and bound.

9.  Finish a baby quilt for our speech therapist that is due in June, 2016.  (Gender not announced yet.)

10.  Finish a baby quilt for Baby A for a family at church.  Baby is due in June, 2016.

11.  Finish a baby quilt for Baby B (yes, twins!) for a family at church.  Baby is due in June, 2016.

12.  Finish a quilt top for Julianne.  This will be one of my RSC16 projects.  The pattern we are using is called Soul Searching.  "Soul Searching" is a quilt design by Kathy Doughty of Material Obsession.

13.  Finally complete my Amanda Murphy Designs (ugly fabric quilt).  This quilt has been on my WIP list for far too long.  It's not ugly at all (it's just a fabrics that I got in a swap that someone else didn't like.  But that was way back in 2012!

14.  Figure out how to sash and border and finish my kite girl quilt.  It was a RSC14 project.  I love these little kite girls!  They really deserve to be finished.

15.  Make a cute baby quilt out of these fabulous kite blocks.  Accuquilt sent me this kite die so that I could be a die tester.  I haven't finished the quilt yet.  I love these cheerful colors!  Now that my fabric scraps are sorted by color it should be a simple fix.  All I need to do is cut and sew!

16.  Finish a red/white/blue charity quilt that will be entered in a contest at the 2016 Spring Tea.  This quilt has not been started yet!  I just printed an envelopes pattern that will work. :)

17.  Finish this sweet 16-patch baby quilt.  This is one of the FIRST things I hope to finish this year as it is my OMG to finish in January.

18.  Complete this Country Roads Mini.  It was a mystery at Humble Quilts for 2015.

19.  Longarm and Customer's Flower Sampler quilt (Lisa) before summer.

20.  Longarm and finish a Customer's Christmas quilt (Lisa)

21.  This lovely pile of blues are for the first row of the Quilt Doodle Designs 2016 BOM reindeer.  Have you seen them?  They are soooo cute.  I'm hoping blues work out for this quilt, but that's the plan.  You can check out the January Reindeer block here.
