Pinkest Friday Finish -- 2.14.14

Happy Valentine's Day.  I worked on my most Valentine's-like quilt this month to get it finally finished.  This quilt pattern was from Yahoo Groups Spring Mystery, 2012.  I even had the quilt top done before that because I was a pattern tester.  The hold-up on this quilt was that I was really new to longarming and I was having a lot of fun with a new template.  Well, the top looked great, but I never looked at the bottom.  There were tons of eyelashes.  This took 16 hours to rip out and I did it over time through different road trips and vacations.  Well, I decided on quilting this with swirls instead of Hearts of Flutter (which I tore out.)  The results were awesome:

 

Quilted with Circle Lord Swirls, of course.

The same polka dot fabric for the back was used for the binding.  I don't think you can go wrong with polka dots!

 

I met my February goal a little earlier than normal.  I'm happy to link up with Fiber of All Sorts.

Classic Meets Modern BOM -- February

This month we had to do Y seams for our Classic Meets Modern BOM.  It really wasn't that hard.  Here's my modern version of the classic amethyst block.

Love Laugh Quilt Christmas QA

Today I worked on my improv block for the Love Laugh Quilt Christmas quilt along.  This is a large block measuring 20" x 24".  When I received the background fabric for this block in a "value packed discount box" I wondered where I would ever used it.  Well, here it is.  My background fabrics for each block of this quilt are black and white.  So here it is held by the best helper ever:

Building Blocks QA -- February

Leah Day is leading us on the Building Blocks QA at The Free Motion Quilting Project.  I am following along making my 8" blocks.  I am not quilting them as I go.  I am marking up my notes and will quilt the blocks when the whole quilt is together.  Since I got my longarm I am not a fan of basting quilts bigger than 12" on the floor.  I found a couple other monochromatic fabrics to go with the three I had.  Here's my three nine-patch blocks (with frame) for February.  Since I was working with 2.5" strips, I also decided to make the rail blocks in the quilt too.

LQG Ship Charity Quilt -- Friday Finish

This week I finished a charity quilt for our local quilt guild.  I don't know which member of our guild added the quilt to the to-be-longarmed box.  It seems like someone was a queen bee or someone won these blocks.  Blocks have come from all across the United States.  Some of the blocks have the block makers' signatures on them.  All are dated 1992.  This WIP is now complete and will find a nice home through our quilt guild.

The back is a simple one-fabric back.  I longarm quilted it with Circle Lord Swirls in white thread.

It's the first Friday of the month, so it's time for the FNSI.  My plan for the FNSI is to work on my RSC14 (Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2014).  I need to make a girl/kite block with the girl wearing pink.  After that I plan to cut 2.5" strips of paper.  (I am using the long brown paper that comes as the wraping on a roll of Warm & Natural batting) ... gotta upcycle!  I plan on cutting 42 strips.  After I cut my 42 strips I am going to use them as foundation for strings of all sorts.  I hope to put a dent in my pink strings.  Should be some fun, mindless sewing.  See what the others are doing at Gone Stitchin'.
