Friday Night Sew In

This is my first time participating in the Friday Night Sew In.

I know I said I wasn't going to start my Orca Bay Mystery Quilt until I got last week's and this week's We Can Do It Skill Builder Sampler blocks done...but I just couldn't resist.  My husband AND 4-year-old son went to bed at 8:30pm!!!  That gives me tons of sewing time.  I think I could cut and sew and cut and sew and cut and sew a ton of step one of Bonnie Hunter (Quiltville) Orca Bay.  These are my colors:  Neutrals, Yellow, Orange, and Green.  I hope I read the first instruction right.  When Bonnie says "black" on her quilt, I guess it's "yellow" for my quilt.  I'm sure it will be pretty as long as I use contrasting colors.   Here's my stack:

Here's what I have cut so far...

I need 448 PAIRS of these puppies!  Guess I better quit blogging and start cutting.  Whew.

Diamond Chains QA Complete

Finally I was able to complete my Diamond Chains quilt.  This quiltalong was hosted by Melinda at Tilda's Twisted Life.  My finished quilt is a California King size.  It measures 86 x 91 .  It's a little puckery here and there, but it will be fine and warm for our bed.  I love the way the heavy FMQ on it made it feel like a weighted blanket.  I feel like I'm getting a hug when I'm wrapped in it. :)

The back really looks puckered to me.  We'll see if that washes out.  I doubt it.  I really need to get my quilt sandwich tight next time.  Glad I'm not a prefectionist and that this quilt isn't going to a show.

Dutchman's Puzzle Quilt Top Progress

A lot of progress was made on my Dutchman's Puzzle quilt top this week.  Here are all the blocks sewn together.  Oh how the yellows brightened this gloomy Ohio day!
This was one vintage twin sheet that I paid FULL PRICE for at Goodwill (a full $3).  But I couldn't pass up those colors!  I combined it with the muslin that I buy at JoAnn Fabrics by the bolt.  I'm not sure how I'll add the border yet.  I am out of vintage sheet.  I think I'll add some more muslin, something yellow, and then some muslin and bind it.  Can't wait to try my stippling on it!

"A Peach in Stitches" is having a giveaway whereas you post pictures of your "Old and New" fabrics.  My oldest fabric is this floral print.  I bought it at a garage sale this summer.  The lady said it was "vintage" and thought it was from the late 40's.  She had been quilting over 50 years and was in the fabric distribution industry.  She sells her stash in garage sale form every year.  Gotta watch the papers for next year's sale!  I didn't have to dig far for it because I was cutting it yesterday.  It matches  my treasures & Tidbits fabric from Robert Kaufman that I won from Leila at Sewn.  Here it is:
The newest fabric that I have arrived yesterday in the mail.  I won it from Ella at Throw a Wench in the Works blog :  http://throwawenchintheworks.blog  THANKS, Ella!  It is three fat quarters of Lark from Amy Butler.spot.com/

WIP Wednesday 11/16/11

This week I FINISHED my little table topper for the Duo QA.  It turned out lovely.  I love the FMQ on it.  It measures a little 20.5" by 20.5".  Part of the purpose for this QA was to do hand stitching and FMQ.  I opted to not do the hand stitching because I don't think I'll ever want to do that.  BUT I did use the stitch on my machine and the clear thread on the top that made the machine stitching have the look of hand stitching.

I LOVE the log cabin block from Karen in OR!  This is from Block Swap Adventure swap.  The colors are great.  Look at that cute fabric in the center with the numbers.  Sweet!

A funny thing happened to my Drunkard's Path QA sub assembly blocks this week.  I made little progress because my 4-year-old helper accidentially found my scissors and cut ONE of each of the blocks.  Grrr.  My bad for leaving the scissors down low.  I didn't take any pictures of that!

Completed 25 of the Dutchman's Puzzle Blocks made with just vintage sheets and muzlin.  I was able to cut all of these out and wasn't planning on making this quilt yet.  But thanks to the service center where my truck was in the shop, I had PLENTY of time to get them all cut as I waited in their waiting are for 4.5 hours!  Glad I took a project with me instead of a book!!!

Chasing Chevrons Quiltalong Fabrics

Here's my fabric choices for the Chasing Chevrons QA at That girl... that quilt....  (click on the button below to get there.)   I'm actually using the four fat quarters that I won from Leila's giveaway at Sewn in the We Can Do It Skill Builder Sampler.  They are Riley Blake -- Treasures and Tidbits.  I am using the blue as the background fabric (purchased at our quilt guild president's new "Hen House".)  The Hen House is a cool place where our quilt guild can get together and sew and have classes and use her short arm machine.  What a neat place.  Anywho... I also see some plain red chevrons and some yellow chevrons.  If there's a border, it will probably be red.  Picking out colors is so much easier when I start with something like the Riley Blake fq's.
