March, 2019 OMG (One Main Goal)
It's time to set my quilting goal for March. Judy at Patchwork Times selected #4 for this month. I'll be working on my Little Letters quilt (pattern from Temecula Quilt Co.
I made most of these letters during the RSC when brown, black and grey were the colors. I love this little quilt. It shouldn't take much to finish it. I need to decide on a back. It needs quilted and bound.

Slow Sunday Stitching -- Building the Frames 3.3.19
Yippee! I now have all of the outlines done for the February clue. Now I just need to go back and fill in the other half of the "x" and add the center x's. There's no more counting for this clue. Hoping it will start to go a little faster.
The MARCH clue was released on Friday. Time to get to the library and get to planning more color options. I just know that if this group does a mystery stitch along for 2020 that I am going to do a ONE FLOSS color on a cool dyed background. What fun seeing all the color options for this stitch along. It's all happening at Linen And Threads Mystery Sampler that I found on Facebook.

This week I subbed in a 5th grade math class. Fifth graders get quite busy. There is only stitching time during the planning period and lunch most days. This pic is being photo bombed by one of the MANY awesome intervention specialists in this district. They help the students so much!
At speech therapy I finished up the final frame. Time to fill it all in so that it looks like the part above the peacock's head. There are a couple of "oops" along the way. It will be all okay in the grand scheme of things. Just go with it and enjoy the calm stitching time!

End of the Month Strings
At the end of each month I try to play with the strings in my scrap basket. Here's what I have this month -- LOTS! In this basket are strings that are usually less than 1.5" wide.
I pre-cut the parallelogram shapes with my Accuquilt die and covered the phone book cutouts with strings. Here's about 20 of them.
I ran them through the dies again and make nice, crisp shapes. I also cut miscellaneous neutrals.

As I went through my camera I found these photos from last weekend at the Buddy Up Tennis Gala. I forgot that I also took my camera. All of the other photos I have posted were from my phone. I love it when I find surprises like this!

Scrap Happy Saturday -- GREEN!!!
GREEN is one of my favorite colors! I have lots of green scraps. I was happy to dig into them today and make some Owl's Well That Ends Well blocks. It's from the book Quilts for Scrap Lovers by Judy Gauthier.
The owl blocks in the book are larger. I adjusted so that the neutral squares are 3.5" (unfinished) vs. 5.5". My completed block is 12.5" unfinished. I like to adapt things so that I can use my Accuquilt dies. All pieces in my owl are Accuquilt cut. :)

Buddy Up Tennis
We are over the moon proud of our little human. He won an essay contest about Buddy Up Tennis. Buddy Up Tennis is a program that matches an athlete (that just happens to have Down Syndrome) to a "buddy" that plays with them and helps them learn tennis skills. It's an amazing program. Our son read his winning essay about how Buddy Up Tennis helps him to 400+ people at the annual benefit gala in Columbus, Ohio.

This young man, Gianluca Audia, was a typical kid that LOVES tennis. He raised $8000 by throwing a spring fling up in the New Hampshire/Vermont area BY HIMSELF! He's 13! Like I said, I don't know where they find these volunteers, but they are AMAZING!
This is Will Gibson. His mom founded Buddy Up Tennis in the original location of Columbus, Ohio. This is his 10th year. It all started when he was watching his brother play tennis and a special coach stepped up and asked Will to play on a side court. It has now grown and they also just launched Buddy Up Fitness (a program to keep our athletes fit.)
It was a three-day event for us. We were wined and dined and put up in a foo foo hotel. He didn't get tired until 12 minutes from home! We got to swim in the hotel pool twice!

The kid he's standing by in the grey shirt is his "buddy", Eric. I don't know where they find these volunteers, but they are AMAZING--each and every one of them! Thank you!!! The volunteers claim they are not sure who gets the most out of Buddy Up Tennis. Their smiles show.
There is a lot of technical instruction during a 90 minute session. I think Owen can beat me!
There are so many participants that they have make-shift courts made with caution tape.
He loved the "free time" in the hotel just hanging out with Dad, playing iPad.

Getting ready for a little tour of Columbus. Valet parking was a must for this downtown hotel.
Of course there was Oreo pie dessert at Tee-Jay's.
He loved sleeping in the same room as Mom & Dad. (Just like old times as he said.)
The special group of speakers and essay winners met for a dining out event the night before the gala at Forno Kitchen & Bar. It was quite fancy for us in the downtown art district. It's especially fancy when we are used to going to Chuck E. Cheese, Chipolte, Chinese Buffets, and Mexican restaurants.
We met so many amazing kids and families!
