Here's my orange kite girl for September for the RSC14. She's so bright.
The block is made from 2" squares. The block pattern can be found at Q is for Quilter blog.
Here she is with all of her friends (January through September). I'm getting more and more attached to this quilt as the months roll by. I need to start thinking about sashing. PLEASE share your ideas! I'm thinking 2" squares in rainbow colors, but a white square every other? Hmmmm. I will wait until I have all the blocks done before I embroidery the flower stems and the kite strings.
This is all thanks to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, 2014. I'm linking up with Angela at SoScrapy: ScrapHappy blog.
I also played with my Accuquilt GO! Kite die. I got it new this summer. It's die #55254. It makes three pieces for a 4" finished kite block. I'm playing with ORANGE, grey, black/white, and pinks.
Then I couldn't stop... With my beautiful, happy orange scraps on the table I just didn't want to put the bag away just yet. I made this improv log cabin block. It's about 13" square. Looks like another rainbow quilt will happen sometime next year.

Oh such lovely blocks. Your kite girls are looking great laid out together. Love the controlled scrappy kite blocks!
You have some great projects happening
Such pretty girl blocks! Love the start for the next year - a fun rainbow quilt in the making.
Those kites are hot, hot, hot. Call me crazy but I've always loved the way orange and pink play off each other. The kite girls are looking good altogether. It would be a lot of work and a lot of planning but what about using only the colour squares of the two adjacent blocks, so between the blue and pink girl you would have blue, pink, and white squares and between the blue and teal girl your squares would be blue, teal and white. Your colours would still be rainbow but controlled. Try laying out a few in several different ways and see what you like best. Good luck!
Kite Girls is so pretty. I'm wondering if your sashing idea would "muddy" the blocks since they also have colored and white blocks interspersed. How about adding a 1" to 1.5" white border to each block, then doing the 2" colored squares as the sashing.
I like! And I would probably do the 2" rainbow blocks without the white between since there is already a ton of white in the quilt.
The kite girls play very well together...with no tangled kites. Impressive. And you really have a kite theme going here...I love how well the blue works with the orange and pink in your kite blocks.
I LOVE your kite girls! This is going to be an awesome quilt.
Cool wonky, scrappy, improve log cabin blocks. Most excellent idea. One I'll probably steal for next year.
Love that little kite girls gingham socks! Soooo cute! I got to looking at it and I think maybe frame them all with a 2" strip in a dark solid (maybe royal blue or purple?), then you could make those little rainbow squares and put between with a white now and then like you were saying..or you could piece crumb scraps on a strip of 2 1/2" paper and use those in between. Its going to be darling no matter what you do of course!
Loving those little kite blocks too...the color scheme is perfect for a little girl...keep on truckin girlfriend! Muah!
How would some green horizontal sashing strips look as "grass" beneath the girls feet? Really cute new GO die -- such a fun combination of colors.
Love the kite girls. What about rainbow/white QST squares to look like bows tied on a kite string?
Your kite girl quilt is going to be amazing.
Love your Kite Girl!
So cute!

I have that die - love your blocks!
Your blocks are great!
Oh, I like the kite blocks and colors!
My ps girls are balloon girls...but I'm bordering in a row of white ps all around and then another border of ps in the girl's color and then finally a white ps border in between blocks.
