Yellow Scrap Happy Saturday

For some reason today went so fast.  It felt like it took me all day to make these four Sand Castle blocks (pattern by Bonnie Hunter in her latest book, String Frenzy.)

I love these blocks.  They won't go together in the final quilt like this, but it's fun to play with them.

I'm linking up with Angela's blog, So Scrappy for the RSC19.

WIP Wednesday 2.6.19

Welecome to Wednesday!

This week I DID start another project.  I'll call it Parallelogram Strings.  Basically it's a little crib quilt that will help me tackle the strings in my string basket.

This is what the string block looks like before it is cut with the Accuquilt die.

I finished all of the blocks for January, 2019, for the Temperature Quilt Along.  I am making kite blocks in specific colors for the high and low temperatures for the day.  I sewed them all together in one row for now.  This is not how they will end up.  I wanted to keep them together and in order.  Most likely I will stitch rip one seam and combine the rows the desired width.  I haven't decided how that's going to work just yet...  Rows for January and then a blank piece to fill in the rest of the month in the average color, separated by a 2.5" strip?  Don't know yet.  I need to do some math/planning.

I'll be working on this embroidery bear crib quilt this month as my OMG project.

I made two Owl's Well That Ends Well blocks in yellow today to participate in the RSC19.

I had an unusual Friday finish.  This is a dog sled that our son had to build for a 5th grade project.  I did some sewing on the raised platform and the straps.

I stitched on my Sunday Slow Stitching project in my sew-to-go bag.  I'm still working on the January clue.  I'm going to move on to the February clue ASAP and eventually go back to the January clue.  The February clue is an outline of where the other clues will go.  It will be pretty important in the up-coming months.

Slow Sunday Stitching

I'm still working on the cross stitch on my peacock.  Here it is in science class.  By the time I got to this point of the peacock the school announced on the loud speaker that students would not have school for TWO days due to extreme low temperatures (-12 was the lowest I saw).  That's cold for kids to be out, so no school.  I resorted to staying home with our son and stitching by machine.

Nines in the Middle Jelly Roll Quilt from Moda Bake Shop

I love this quilt pattern.  I'll be using it to thin down some of my 2.5" strips some day.  For now, I will just post the pattern reference here.

It's a Moda Bake Shop pattern by   Check it out here.   This pattern is by Doris Rice, The Quilting Queen www.quiltingqueenonline.com This quilt/project finishes at 68" x 90".

Owl's Well That Ends Well -- Yellow Scraps

I made two Owl's Well That Ends Well blocks in yellow today to participate in the RSC19.  The owl on the right has a bunch of stars in the brown fabric.  It reminds me of Wonder Woman.  LOL.

It's called Owl's Well That Ends Well.  It's from the book Quilts for Scrap Lovers by Judy Gauthier.  I got the book from our local library.  In the book the blocks are 20.5" (20" finished size).  I reduced the block down to 12.5" (12" finished size) because I incorporated using Accuquilt dies to cut all of the pieces.  This is a happy project!

February OMG with Elm Street Quilts

It's time to set my OMG (one main goal) for February at the link-up at Elm Street Quilts.  The number picked by Judy at Patchwork Times for the February UFO is #10.  That means that this month I will be finishing this embroidery bear crib quilt:

It always makes me smile when I know I had help from my mini me quilt holder. :)

Fortunately the last time I worked on it (near the end of December) I had finished quilting it.  Here it is on the frame:

I need to trim and bind it for a happy finish.

An Unusual Friday Finish -- 5th Grade Dog Sled Model

Today I have an unusual Friday finish to show.  It's not a quilty finish, but there was some sewing involved.  It's our son's model of a dog sled.  He is in the 5th grade.

I put it next to a pop can so that you could see the size.  It was a family project.  My husband drew the wooden frame.  Owen cut it out with the saw and drilled the holes.  My husband put it together.  I made the raised platform by sewing a mat with fabric and batting.  I sewed each piece of felt to represent fur to each of the pieces that tied to the frame.

The fabric threaded through the drilled holes easily with the help of pushing them through with a pair of scissors.  Below is the underside of the dog sled.  Extra felt was cut to make a rope and extra ties for "other" cargo.  I think it will work for his purposes.  He had to write the card and memorize the speech.  Happy February!
