Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2026 Plans RSC26 -- Some old, some new...

Of course I plan to work through my scrap bins during 2026.  Listed below are some of my plans for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge -- a challenge led by Angela at So Scrappy that directs which color of scrap to pull out and play with each month.

I'm excited about a new pattern I bought during a Black Friday deal at Cluck Cluck Sew.  It's called Fish.  Honestly, I'm not that thrilled how the pattern was written.  I had to re-draw the quilt block so that I could see it by size in my brain to cut on graph paper.

For the RSC I plan to do a fish each color of the month and then two other fish of colors (like black or brown or grey) so that it can get finished for a 12-fish baby quilt.

HO HO HO is another new pattern I purchased during Black Friday, 2025.  Right now I'm working on writing the pattern so that it's easier for me to cut scrap pieces.  Can you see how it's all wrinkled from being toted around in my school bag?

Scrappy Pink Schoolhouse

Using my Accuquilt BOB schoolhouse die, I hope to work on pink schoolhouse blocks during the pink RSC month.  I need another girly baby quilt.

Christmas Memories (red and green months)

I'll be using this layout during red and green months.  I'm going to make the blocks much smaller and swap out the red and green shapes (the four-patches will be red and the signature looking block will be green).  This might help me use up some of my 4-patch leader/ender pieces I didn't know where they would land.

I started this 9/22/25.  It is a simple applique project that will be in my sew-to-go kit for school.  Background fabrics have been selected and cut to size.  Other fabrics have been selected.  Stem pieces have been cut and sewn into long strips but not sewn onto the background yet.  Scrappy blues have been selected for the rail fence blocks but not cut yet.  HST's will be a constant gold that matches the flower center and flower bud.  I'll be making the rail fence blocks during the BLUE month for this one.

...and don't call the quilt police that I have so many new projects.  I had a TON of finishes recently.  I'll be posting about all of those finishes in one photo heavy post at the end of this month.  Stay tuned.

Then there are the repeat offenders that are RSC projects in the past that never were finished.  Will this be their year to shine? Rail Fence 3.5" blocks-- need 900 blocks for this quilt.  I have to count them and clip sets together.

Piccadilly Circle -- Very stale project due to lack of interest. I started making this quilt in 2014 for the RSC.  In 2021 I made only three of the border pieces (yellow, light green, and dark green).  I made one yellow and one dark green Piccadilly Circle blocks in 2022.  I still need to make circle blocks in dark purple and lime green.  I also need the other border parts.

Kite Girl--All of the Kite Girl blocks are made.  All of the embroidery of the flower stems and kite strings are complete.  This quilt will have an antique look with mint green sashing.  I plan to work on it during the month for light green if it is not already finished.  The inspiration for this quilt appeared at Q is for Quilter. I believe I started this project for the RSC in 2014.

Folk Art Birds -- very stale project due to lack of interest.  This was a 2016 RSC project start.

HST Quilt, Three Six Nine RSC22 -- (needs more HST made and rows completed)  -- Losing interest due to the fact that some of the rows are together and I don't know where I am exactly on the pattern.  This one gives me a little headache to think about due to the fact that it is mapped out on graph paper where the specific sets go.  I started putting them together in rows as leader/enders here and there and now I don't know where I am.  UGH...  I just need to go through it row by row.

Scarborough Fair -- more blocks need to be made.  I'm not sure what RSC year I started this one.  I hope to continue as an RSC26 project.

These blocks are old enough that I don't remember the name of the block.  It was an RSC project that lost my interest.  I only made six blocks.  You can see I didn't even finish the sashing piece on the purple blocks.  I'm going to stitch them together and call it a quilt.  I'll call it RSC UFO.

Dicey--I made these blocks so that I could do a few things -- learn how to applique circles using my Applipops, use miscellaneous neutrals, use the Accuquilt chisel die that I seldom use.  Mission accomplished.  The next step is to iron out all of the Frixion pen applique placement marks, cut 1.5" sashing strips.  This will be a 6x8 layout.  I'm waiting for longarm season to be done due to cold weather in the room so that I can settle down to my winter piecing.

You have very pretty quilts to start in 2026, I look forward to watching their progress. I think everyone has UFQ's we lost enthusiasm for over the years. I'm impressed you remember what years you've started them in. Happy stitching!

The patterns you bought are so cute! I especially like the fish quilt! Looks like you have a good start on your 2026 to do list!
