The Wonky String Quilt is Complete

 I'm excited to share that the wonky string quilt is complete.  Woohoo.  

I finished the binding last night.  I took it outside for some snow pics.

I walked further up the driveway and finally found a small spot of sun to show off the quilt colors.

This time of year I get to send my husband texts like this.  He doesn't need words when he sees this.  But he does know where my truck is stuck and where it slid off of the icy driveway covered with snow.  I am so thankful for his patience and his skills as a mechanic and equipment operator.  I'm truly blessed (as are several of our neighbors.)

Sometimes people think that I am lazy that I drive half way to the chicken coop.  What they don't realize that at this time of year the hydrant freezes and I have to carry a five gallon bucket of water up the hill.  I also make sure the chicken get all the good scraps from the kitchen.  The snow is over my boots right now.

I quilted it with a gentle all-over stipple.  The binding is the same blue fabric I used for the sashing.

I made the back in January during "red" month for the RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge.). I used up large chunks of red fabrics and made a pieced back.  I think it worked out perfectly.  I can't think of a better place for this big chunk of paisley print.  This quilt measures 54" x 67".

This was a stale WIP that was started on New Years Day, 2014.  I committed myself to work on it every Sunday until it was complete.  Now I have a finished quilt!  This process is really working for me.  It was a pattern called Sonja's Windows.  I decided to change the design so that I could finish it easier.  I'm totally  happy with this wonky string quilt that is ready to be donated to a charity.

I've already decided that my next quilt to dedicate myself to on Sundays will be Full Stop (the RSC21) design by Angela at SoScrappy.

Since this method is really helping me finish some stale projects, I'm actually thinking about having a Sunday Linky Party.  I haven't thought of a catchy name.  Is anybody interested in joining the party if I do?

Scrap Happy Saturday -- RSC22 -- Aqua

 Yep, I started a new RSC project AGAIN!  This one is called Random Ohio Stars!

Bonnie Hunter has a free pattern on her blog called Random Ohio Stars!  I also made the red blocks for January.  These will fit nicely in the empty bin I made almost finishing my string quilt.

Next I moved on to making a few waffle blocks.  I haven't made these blocks for a few years.  This was an RSC project started in 2019.

Oh, did you see my red finish that I started and finished?  It's called From the Heart.  You can read more about it here.  But here's a photo of it.  It's already been gifted to my SIL who is celebrating 7 years of sobriety this month!

Here's the bin that I brought down from the longarm room that I am working with this month.  There are a lot of light blues, but not many aquas and teals in there.  I'll root through and organize as I go.

From the Heart -- A Friday Finish

I finished this little quilt called From the Heart.  The design is by Pam Buda.  The pattern was free for a short time.  You can find it now at Heartspun Quilts.

I gave this little quilt to my sister-in-law.  She LOVES to decorate by the month and is awesome at it.  It was a little gift to not only celebrate Valentine's Day, but also her sobriety day.  She has been sober since 2/11/2015!  I think that is an amazing task!  Congrats, Jo!  Here it is on her kitchen table:

I backed it and bound it with the same fabric that was on the front.  I longarm quilted it with 1" lines (give or take).  I forgot to measure it before I gave it to her.  Mini quilts are so satisfying.  They are on and off your list before you know it.

Oh, and did you see the little design on her kitchen chairs?  Hmmm.  I'll have to surprise her someday and make something that matches that!

From the Heart on the Frame

Snow Day!!!  No School Today!!!  I'm going to get a few projects finished and then let me sew, let me sew, let me sew.  Welcome to Ohio!

I almost forgot to take a photo of this little quilt.  The straight line quilting went so fast.  Brrr.  It was quite cold in the quilt room.  The half bottle of water on the desk was frozen.  Here's From the Heart--  It was a Pam Buda sew along.

Considering the 4" finished blocks in this quilt, I used my ruler to mark the lines close to 1" apart.  I used the lock on the longarm carriage and zipped across.  Brrr.  It was cold in there.  A little space heater kept me going.  I made the border a little larger than the pattern so that I could trim it nice and square when finished to the correct size.

Happy Groundhog's Day!

I finished quilting my string quilt.  Now to take it off the frame, trim, and bind.  I quilted it with a large stipple.  It will be soft and fluffy.  I don't usually use polyester batting, but I had a piece that fit this quilt perfectly.

Here's a pic of the completed wonky top.  The binding is already made, so I'm hoping to finish this on Sunday.  I have dedicated some sewing time each Sunday to work on a specific project.  This is the second quilt that I normally wouldn't have worked on that is close to a finish now!  This is working for me!

I finished sewing the Pam Buda From the Heart sew along quilt.  The binding is made.  I did manage to slap it onto the longarm frame.

I finished the mini, Glad Tidings, by Pam Buda.  I started this recently.  These minis are instant gratification to me.  It's fun to have finishes.

I started a couple new projects.  I'm not worried about my WIP list getting bigger because I have several quilts just waiting for it to get warm in the longarm room.  Here's the Kathleen Tracy Valentine Mystery 2022.  I found this sweet little sew along on Facebook.  It's fun to see all the interpretations of the same.  It measures about 13.5" square.  I set this as my small goal to finish for February.

I started a new RSC project.  This pattern is called Random Ohio Stars!  It's a free pattern on Bonnie Hunter's site.  I plan to make three stars in the color of the month for RSC.

Another RSC project that was moved forward this week was Folk Art Birds.  Woohoo!

More 3.5" rail fence blocks were made.  421 of 900 complete.

I slightly tamed my 2.5" scrap bin this week.  I'm not a fan when it's so full that everything is wrinkled and smashed in there.  Here's the before pic.  I pieced rows of five blocks to make waffle blocks to move that project forward.

Here's the "after" photo -- a tiny dent was put into the 2.5" blocks.

I'm also pulling Halloween colors like orange, purple, green, and black out of this bin to move along another WIP called Cheddar Jack.  I'm still thinking about the design in my brain right now.  It will come to me.

OMG with Elm Street Quilts -- February

 I am setting the bar really low for my OMG for February.  My goal this month will be to finish my Kathleen Tracy Valentine Mystery mini 2022.  Here's the little piece I made this weekend:

You can find the sweet little FREE pattern in  Kathleen Tracy Quilts on Facebook. (group).  I just LOVE this border neutral that somebody gave to me.  The snow-covered trees and cardinals are so fitting.

Since it's so small I'm going to try to quilt it on the longarm.  It's too cold in the longarm room to maintain a consistent stitch size.  I will try it on this piece.  Right now we have about 14" of Ohio snow in the yard. There is supposedly more coming on the radar in the next two or three days.

 I finished playing with the red scraps left in the scrap bin after putting away the 30 gallon tote of red.  I decided to start ONE MORE MONTHLY PROJECT for the RSC.  

Ohio Stars!!!  

I really enjoyed making the little hourglass blocks for the Kathleen Tracy Valentine Mystery, 2022 that I decided I would make three Ohio Stars in the color of the month for the RSC.  These blocks will fit nicely together.  Bonnie Hunter has a free pattern on her blog called Random Ohio Stars!
