Kawandi Project -- Slow Sunday Stitching

The first round of my Kawandi project is in my school bag for tomorrow.  I was pretty productive with my longarm adventures during the holiday break.  Stay tuned for binding stitching and finishes!

These little scraps are pieces of the colors my husband picked for the 2025 Bonnie Hunter Mystery Lupine & Laughter.  I think they look great together.  Can't wait to see them in that quilt.  The thought of all these magic pins being in my school bag didn't sit right with me.  One of my specialties as a substitute teacher is that I am usually a special request sub for special needs students.  I couldn't stand the thought of a student putting a pin in his/her mouth or poking someone with it.  I decided to machine baste these overlaps.  Now that I look at the photo, I better get in there and push out those corners!  Ooops.  So many times looking at my own blog posts helps avoid stuff like this.

I haven't decided how many strands of floss I will use when I stitch my project.  My internet search said two-four strands.

If you Kawandi, how many strands do you prefer?

I also stitched a binding onto this 95.5" square quilt.  It will nice to have this one on my lap nice and cozy during the winter nights in front of the tv.  Hours or hand stitching ahead.

I'm linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching here.

I've never done any Kawandi but I really like the look. Basting the pieces was a good idea. You are wise to prepare several days ahead for school. Sometimes getting back into the routine can be challenging. Happy stitching!

I've made one Kawandi project and I really enjoyed using up those scraps that are always really precious! I also used a perle 8 to stitch mine. Happy New Year.

I had to look up Kawandi, interesting technique. It is similar to one I did in a class on Improv Meditation, only mine is much smaller. I like the idea of this.

I have heard os people using spaghetti thread for Kawandi. I would recommend using perle cotton 12. I have found using size 8 a struggle to pull thru. I know you want to use what you have so I would think using two or three strands of floss might be ok. You will just have to try it to see what you like and how it pulls thru the layers. I love that striped binding!

I love all the greens in your Kawandi project! Probably a good idea to do the machine basting instead of the pins since it's a take-along project. I'm interested in trying one of these, too - so it's good for me to read what your commenters said about the thread to use. Enjoy your stitching today!

I used perle cotton #12. I used old damask tablecloth for backing and did not use batting. I love how it turned out and have been thinking of starting another. I added patches as I stitched so nothing was planned ahead and no kind of basting was required.

I love your project. My hand stitiching is so slow, a potholder would be all I would be able to finish. And I just love pushing fabric through my vintage Singers.
