Quacks on Quilt!

It's time to join in on the fun at Lily Pad Quilting: Pets on Quilts.  This is my first year to participate, but I have ahhhhed and ahhhhed over others pets.  I am in the "other pets" category with my five ducks on a quilt.

My ducks (left to right) are Emma, Maisy, Jordon, Grey, and Pepperoni.  The chicken in the forefront of the picture is Orange.  Wiggles the rooster and a few others watch from the rear of the picture.  Pepperoni is a drake (male) and the other four are females (did you know that a female duck is just called a duck?)

It was easy to lure the ducks onto the quilt with the watermelon.  It was also easy to get them all to look at me at the same time because I made the noise my rooster makes when he sees a hawk in the sky.  They all freeze and look.  Say cheese... I mean quack!

They all have distinct personalities.  I was amazed at the differences when I first started raising chickens and ducks over three years ago.  Grey is the most friendly and adventurous.  Maisy was the first duck I purchased.  Her partner was eaten by a fox this spring. :(  I purchased four ducklings the next day to keep her company.  Ducks are very social.  Maisy doesn't mind hanging with the ducks or the chickens.

All of them just love watermelon.  It's been such a great season for watermelon this year here in Ohio.  They are dining on my Nested Churn Dash table topper.  Don't worry.  I washed it right away after the fun photo and it's all good.  I made the Nested Churn Dash during a quilt along with Quilt Jane.

Check out all the other cute pets here.

I laughed when I read 5 ducks on a quilt, but after reading about them I kind of wish I could have ducks.

I think this is the first time there has been ducks to the show - how pleasant! I do know ducks are social - great watch dogs too. Welcome to your first time at Pets on Quilts.

I love ducks, we keep talking about getting some, but would feel bad keeping them caged up (we have loose dogs in the neighborhood and no fence in our yard). Thank you for sharing your feathered friends!

I'm so glad to see sucks on a quilt. My friend has been feeding non-migrating geese for many years. They all have names and distinctive personalities, live in families and guard their young closely. Thanks for telling us about each of your ducks. They are winners!

Well, that's not something you see every day. Ducks on a quilt! I enjoyed reading about their story.

Love the Ducks on a Quilt and they are all looking at the camera and love your explanation of how you did it. I sometimes can't get Treacle our Airedale to look at me when I am taking a picture no matter what I say!!! Hugs, Susie x

The ducks are lovely, but Wiggles is the beauty for me, something about that head just peeping in. A bit like the photographer getting all the wee kids to smile at the same time, well done. Cheers, Nancy J

Absolutely adorable photo that I think would also make an excellent quilt magazine cover, or quilt calendar. You have such sweet birds which I can tell are loved very much. I think they certainly enjoyed their dinner table set with your lovely quilt.

Definitely a quack me up photo!

What a fun family! It's so sad when a pet is lost to a predator :(. So glad you got her some friends to comfort her.

Lovely quilt! We have eight beautiful Khaki Campbell ducks. I've just been introduced to Magpie ducks. Are these Magpies?
