Tumbler Quilt Progress

I know in this picture my tumbler charm quilt looks huge.  I like the way it looks on the line right now at 24 rows long.  This was one of my Just 3 goals with TraceyJay Quilts.

I have at least 10-12 rows more to go.  Here's what it looks like on the bed:

LOL... my husband said he doesn't like the green borders on this quilt.  Ummmm... it's on top of our current bedspread... :~/

Terri's QA Quilt Top Finished

I am so happy to have kept on schedule with the Tetris QA at Happy Quilting.  This was one of the easiest border decisions I have made.  I just feel that this sunflower Debbie Mumm fabric was the perfect match (click on the picture to enlarge to show the detail).  This quilt has a very country look to it.  I like the way the black inner border frames it too.  Check out all the other Tetris finishes on Melissa's blog here.

Some quilting and a binding and we'll be ready for a picnic and fireworks!

Speaking of Debbie Mumm...
Barbara from Cat Patches is making a free pattern from Debbie Mumm that she found on the internet. It's called "Mumm's the Word" and it was created to celebrate 25 years of quilting. Isn't it gorgeous! http://www.debbiemumm.com/Projects/QuiltBlocks/2012/

Tetris QA Quilt Top

Here's the six quilt blocks for the Tetris QA all put together.  Yes, I messed up on the last block (the 42 blocks in the top right corner).  If I wouldn't tell you, you probably wouldn't know unless you are totally into Tetris.  I was going to undo it and make it right, but the person receiving this quilt has no clue what Tetris is.  I had three blocks (one pink and two light blue) left over from block 5.  I fogot that they should be in the first row of block 6.  I didn't feel like unpicking about 36 blocks to make it correct.  I think it looks fine as it is.  I'm okay with it.  Live and learn.  I really do like the looks of this.  It was a great scrap buster.  Hopefully by next week at this time I will have made a border decision and I can start sewing my borders.  As Melissa would say, "Happy Quilting!".

After thought... I am sooooo glad I didn't rip all this out to fix the three pieces.  My husband looked at it and said it was "pretty".  He said I should have broke the blocks up more.  LOL.  Then I explained Tetris and how it worked and how I was constantly attached to my Gameboy... To make a long story short, it's not going to matter.  I'm still happy with this quilt.  The blocks probably cost me $1.50 to make this quilt top.  (These fabrics were part of the huge garage sale find that I got this summer.)

Hundred Hugs Quilt

Couldn't sleep... I started my Hundred Hugs Quilt with the little 2.5" squares I had already cut.  I just picked blues, yellows, and a green here and there.  Here's the 100 center blocks:

I'm not sure if I should do the next part (border) with yellow or white.  What do you think?  I'm leaning towards the wite because it may be too yellow?  Ahhhhh... decisions, decisions.
Here's the link to the free pattern:

WIP Wednesday 8.8.12

Here's what happened this week.

I finally added the border (actually three borders) to the Dutchman's Puzzle vintage sheet quilt.  I found the yellow inner border fabric while I was cleaning out the spare bedroom upstairs.  It was a vintage sheet!  I thought it was pefect for it.  I LOVE how the 1" border brings it all together.  Can you believe that I made a quilt with only four different fabrics?  It's going to go perfect on the bed in the spare bedroom that I'm been working on!  Now it needs some serious pressing/starch and a back.

I finished the August round of the Modern Mini Mystery Round Robin.  I can't show it to you, but here's a sneak peek:
I completed the August FMQ Challenge with Sew Cal Gal.  It's supposed to be a jester's hat design.  With a little more practice, I think I could really like and utilize this pattern taught by Wendy Sheppard.
I added my nine blocks worth of entries to the Block Lotto.

My tumbler quilt continues to grow.  It's 36 tumblers across (83" wide). I'm not going to put a border on this quilt. The edge tumblers will be cut to make it straight. So I'm guessing it will be about 80" wide when finished. It will at least have to be 90" long. Right now it's about 50" long. Whew, now that I typed that it doesn't seem that I have that much more to go. Thanks to Accuquilt Baby GO! the tumbler part is easy.

The fourth Tetris block is complete (I didn't put the two corner pieces on it because that's where the Tetris pieces for block five will begin.)

Completed Projects -- 6
Tetris Block (block #4)
Submitted cool ladder blocks for the Block Lotto (9)
Tumbler Quilt now has 18 rows completed
Hexagon flowers this week (1)
FMQ Challenge - August
Completed quilt top for the Dutchman's Puzzle vintage sheet quilt

New Projects - 0
No new projects this week, but the Vintage Holiday QA at Fabric Mut is tempting this week:
http://fabricmutt.blogspot.com/p/vintage-holiday-qal.html  I think I'll just avoid temptation and sit this one out.  BUT I plan to start to make this cute baby quilt.  It's one of my three goals for August in the Pick Three

Make this Hundred Hugs baby quilt using my 2.5" block bin and strips

I think I found a great place to use my strings at FITF blog.  It's called scrappy triangles and it's on her tuturial page:
http://www.filminthefridge.com/2011/10/12/scrappy-triangles-a-quilt-block-tutorial/

As you can see, I have a lot of projects ongoing.  So I decided to sign up with traceyjay quilts and set goals for the Just Three:

Currently and SLOWLY in Progress: 9
Cafe Mocha (In the Bag Ugly Fabric quilt challenge
Tumbler Charm Quilt
New York Beauty QA (need a ton of pinwheels... only 8 beauties completed)
Tetris QA

Summer Series Quiltalong (stilll need more random blocks)
We Can Do It Skill Builder Sampler (need six very pretty blocks to be caught up!)

Modern Mini Round Robin (August all caught up; waiting on next partner)

Tetris Tuesday #4

Here we are, week four of the Tetris QA.  Here's the block I did today.  You'll notice the two empty spots in the top corners.  That's where next week's blocks will start.  The top row is just basted for now.  Check out what the others are doing on Melissa's blog, Happy Quilting.

Just Three with traceyjay quilts - August

I love setting quilty goals.  Have you seen the Just Three at traceyjay quilts?  You list your three quilty related goals for each month and try to accomplish those three goals. Since I am already caught up on ALL of my quilty obligations for August (Block Swap, Modern Mini, and Block Lotto)  I am going to give it a try this month and see how it goes.  Here are my three:

1

Finish this Dutchman's Puzzle quilt top so that it can be quilted in September after school starts:

2

Make this Hundred Hugs baby quilt using my 2.5" block bin and strips

3

Complete seven more rows of the Tumbler Charm quilt.  This includes going through my scraps, cutting more tumblers, and adding them to the quilt.  Right now it is at 17 rows.  This will still not complete the quilt top, but it will still be making progress.

There's still time for you to set your goals and link up!  Check it out at traceyjay quilts.

August Block Swap Adventure

Here's the block I made for Karen in Portland, OR. It is the August Block Swap Adventure block. Karen requested the Signature Star block from Quilter's Cashe. She also liked bright, bold or dark, rich colors. She also liked large prints.  It was one of those nights that I couldn't sleep after working midnights... I started to sew and all the planets must have been in line or my grandmother was watching over my shoulder from heaven... or both.  All the seams just wanted to line up perfectly.  Surprisingly I got this block done very very early in the month and I didn't have to worry about it for the rest of the time. Whew! I love an early deadline!  It was mailed on 7/26.

FMQ Challenge - August

Here's my attempt at the August FMQ Challenge with Sew Cal Gal.  This month we tried to do a jester's hat motif taught by Wendy Sheppard.  This one needs more practice.  I like the shape of a lot of my jester's hats, but I need to figure out how to transition them better.  Here's what I got:

August Block Lotto

Here are my nine blocks for the August Block Lotto is called Cool Ladder (Jacob's Ladder in cools - green, blue, or purple with cream background).  All of them are different colored prints thanks to that awsome garage sale of scraps I got last month.

And of course... my proud helper.
Yesterday we went to the doctor.  Owen has strep throat.  Poor little guy.  Get better soon!!!

Today is kickoff day for a QA I plan on doing!  Whohoo!
