Tumbler Rug #2 -- A Friday Finish

I'm happy to report another finish today.  It's Tumbler Rug #2.  I didn't know I liked making rugs so much.  This one is a little fancier with a border than Tumbler Rug #1.

I quilted it with a larger overall stipple a bit bigger than my thumb. 

 

I used this slightly heavy fabric for the back.  It's something somebody gave to me.  It might be upholstery fabric, but I'm not sure.

 

It fits nicely in front of my sink.

 

 

This was one of the quilts that I had planned to finish this quarter.  I posted about it in my Finish-A-Long 2017 Q2 Goals Post here.

Last week was the first time I washed Denim Tumbler Rug #1, finished 3.17.17.  Boy does it wash up nicely!  I have a feeling I have a few friends that are going want a set of these too for Christmas (but not this year.)  I think they would make a nice gift.  Hopefully I'll score some brown/black/green jeans at summer garage sales for some earth tone rugs.  It measures 28" x 42".

Pat Sloan Soltice Challenge Block 18/25

Here's block #18 of 25 of Pat Sloan's Solstice Challenge.  It's called On the Go.  Again, I am using all my red/white scraps.  I used flying geese instead of the HST's in the pattern.  Linking up with Pat Sloan on her blog here.

Presidential Challenge -- The Underpants Project

Our local quilt guild had a "presidential challenge".  They called it this because we were supposed to work on them around Presidents' Day.  They are really for a quilt show in July.  The challenge was to use a magazine page to inspire us to create a 30" x 30" (or so) quilt.  I thought I would kill two birds with one stone (as I often try to do) and use my Underpants Project block to make this quilt.

 

I used this applique tool.  It's called Judy's Applique Gem.  I got it here at Gadget Girls.  I thought it would make a nice stocking stuffer for me a couple years ago at Christmas.  This is the first time I used it.  It was really nice to help me follow the unusual curve of the underpants.  The little straight part of the ruler also helped me with the straight part. 

 

I did a simple outline of the panties and then just a small stippling everywhere else.

Tumbler Rug #2

Bonnie Hunter had a tumbler challenge a while back.  I worked on denim tumblers.  I started making a set of rugs for the kitchen (because all denim quilts are so heavy.)  Tumbler rug #2 is now on the longarm frame.  I am quilting it with an all-over stipple.

 

I'm using a heavy duty back for it.  The cotton backing that I used on Tumbler Rug #1 is holding up.

Slow Sunday Stitching -- Honey Bee Block Complete

Happy Easter!

I finally finished the slow stitching (needle turn applique) on my Pat Sloan Winter Solstice Challenge block.  Not all the teardrops and leaves are perfect, but their mine.  This is block #14 of 25.  It is called Honey Bee.  You can find information on the Solstice Challenge on Pat's blog here.

H2H Time!

It's time to link up our progress on our 2017 H2H quilts!  I'm happy to report this year that my quilt is done -- almost.  The quilt itself is done.  It was mailed to Emily for Happy Chemo yesterday.  She should get it by Friday, 4/21.  THEN it can be gifted to someone that just needs a happy hug.

Let's take a look at all the love that went into the quilt that I call My Heart Skips a Beat.  (I don't usually name my quilts, but this one just happened.)  I like the way some of the blocks were left blank (without an applique heart) to make things interesting.

I won these blocks from Linda who blogs at Art In Search..  Linda puts together beautiful comfort quilts.  These "Hearts Galore" were blocks given to Linda.  She put them up for adoption.  The orphan block adoption was hosted by Cynthia's blog, Quilting is More Fun Than Housework.  This quilt will be donated to Happy Chemo as an H2H quilt.  Emily from Em's Scrap bag will be distributing the quilts.  H2H stands for Hands to Help.  It's a comfort quilt charity drive that is driven by Sarah Craig at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  Look at all the LOVE that has gone into this quilt already.




It measures 61" x 93".  I quilted it with one of my new to me pantographs.  I recently purchased a whole box of them on APQS.  It was great practice for me and it turned out quite cute (if I don't say so myself.)

The back is super scrappy.  This month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC17) at Angela's blog, SoScrappy,  we are focusing on using multi-colored fabrics that don't really fit into a color family.  I thought that would be a great place for some bright, fun fabrics.  There are bright pinks, fishing lures, hearts, flowers, picnic foods, plaids, ducks in the garden, buttons, and some scrappy bow tie blocks.  They worked perfectly for the back of the quilt.

Here in the plaid fabric you can see some of the 10" Feathered Paisley pantograph quilting.  The design is by Anne Bright at www.annebright.com.

I was great practice for me to try pantographs again.  I haven't done one for a few years. 

 

I love a striped binding!  This multi-colored stripe was fun for it.

 

 

Somehow all this scrappy goodness works for this quilt.  I love it when it all comes together.  The binding is a multi-colored fabric as well.  I love a striped binding.
