On the Frame Friday

 On the frame today is one of my waffle block crib quilts.  My neighbor's daughter is having a boy very soon.  I feel the need to jump the line and get it done.

This was a project that I worked on during the RSC.  I did find a cute piece of flannel for the backing.  I am quilting it with clam shells because that is what was already set up.

Yes, that also means that I finished the quilting on the GO! ABCs quilt.  Ahhh... Stuff moving to the "to be finished" part of my list.  Finally.

WIP Wednesday 8.17.22

Today is the first day of the 2022-23 school year.  Our son is a freshman this year.  He hasn't attended school physically since 3.13.2020.  It could be a culture shock situation.  I hope he has a great year.  It's time to sew.

I finished putting together the kite blocks that I started several years ago.  I added a round of orange and pink squares to make this quilt a more usable size.  That was a great idea suggested by my bloggy friend, Patty.

Speaking of my friend, Patty, she was also the inspiration behind helping me find a place to use some of my grandma's buttons on these littles.  I am happy to wipe two little projects off my long list.

GO! ABCs is on the longarm.  It is more than half way quilted.

I started a new stitch along.  Melissa is always an inspiration to me when it comes to fun decorating and cross stitching.  She sharing her design for a Mystery Autumn Stam SAL on her blog at Pinker n Punkin Quilting & Stitching.

I grabbed a piece of Aida cloth and some random floss that I hope works out color wise and started stitching.  This will be the project in my sew-to-go bag.  There will be sub jobs, bus stop waiting, and the like very soon.

Each Sunday I try to get an item on my WIP list further along.  I continue to work on that project until it is  at least at the finished flimsy stage -- or ideally the finished quilt stage.  I made progress on Random Ohio Stars (a Bonnie Hunter design) by making three more Ohio Star blocks.

Monday Making -- GO! ABC Quilt

 Today I'm working on quilting my GO! ABC Quilt.  It is my one main goal (OMG) to finish this quilt this month.  I am on task.  Each month crafters set one goal and link up at Elm Street Quilts.  Here's my view while working from the back of the longarm.

It's on the frame.  I am quilting it using my Circle Loard giant template board called Clamshells.  I'm kinda funny that when I quilt with clam shells that I like the curved part of the design to be at the bottom.  Is that the way you do it?  I am using black thread for the quilting because of the black background.  This too is out of my comfort zone.  I think it looks fine so far.  I didn't think a light or bright color going across it looked right, so black it is.

Random Ohio Stars Sunday Progress

Each Sunday I work on a specific WIP until it is completed.  Random Ohio Stars is the quilt that I will be working on each Sunday until it is complete.  It is a pattern designed by Bonnie Hunter.  This plan has been working for me to get some WIPS off the list.  Here's three small grey blocks for the Random Ohio Stars.  Each block is forward progress.

Slow Sunday Stitching -- A New Stitch Along

I started a new stitch along.  Melissa is always an inspiration to me when it comes to fun decorating and cross stitching.  She sharing her design for a Mystery Autumn Stam SAL on her blog at Pinker n Punkin Quilting & Stitching.

I grabbed a piece of Aida cloth and some random floss that I hope works out color wise and started stitching.  This will be the project in my sew-to-go bag.  There will be sub jobs, bus stop waiting, and the like very soon.

My favorite embroidery hoop has seen better days.  I've had it since the mid 1970's.  You can see that it is bent around the edges.  It's been smashed and crunched.  It's still my favorite shape and it still works.  I'm going to make it last as long as I can.

I did finish two littles this week.  It was a great place for grandma's buttons to land.  I think they are cute.

Our son is doing great after his tonsil surgery/ day 6 recovery hemorrhage / second surgery.  He didn't get to go on his special camping trip in Virginia (there's always next year).  But he did get to go to the half day freshman orientation at school.  The pic on the left was taken on July 15, 2022.  The pic on the right was taken on Friday, August 12, 2022.  What a difference 35 pounds lost on him.  He looks great.  Too bad he had to lose it due to swallow issues.  He is paying very close attention to what he is eating now.  I need to learn lessons and be inspired by his healthy habits!  School starts for him this week on 8/17.

RSC22 -- An Orange Themed Flimsy Is Complete

I'm happy that another project was moved along to the flimsy stage this week with the help of some orange (and pink) scraps.  

I'm really happy with the suggestion that Patty, The Quilt Lady gave me to add a row of blocks to make the quilt a more useable size.  I had these kite blocks in a baggie in the drawer for several years.  I am. happy that they came out to play.  Don't worry about the borders being uneven at the corners.  I almost always do that.  I trim them after it is quilted to make them nice and square.

In other RSC news I played with the RSC waffle blocks that I had on hand.  I had enough for two crib quilts.  I think they turned out cute.  I am now retiring this project from the RSC.  These have been moved to the to-be-quilted pile!

Two Littles Are Done

 Two of my "littles" are done.  I think they turned out cute.  The one with the white buttons was a nice place for some of my grandma's buttons to land.  They are sitting on a project tin that was my grandma's.  

This little project was inspired by my bloggy friend, Patty.  If you have suggestions of other favorite projects that would use a lot of buttons, please let me know.
