WIP Wednesday 2.17.21

This week I finished the quilting on my Fortune Teller quilt. It is trimmed and the binding is made. I'm hoping for a finish by the end of this week. This is a pattern by Amanda Jean Newburg.

I also finished this little charity crib quilt.

I started a new project. It's a quilt called Gobble, Gobble, by Lori Holt. I made all of the drumsticks.

I played with yellow scraps and made a few rail fence blocks. 24/900 blocks complete.

On my longarm frame is this vertical striped quilt that I am quilting for a friend.

We didn't have school on Monday due to President's Day. We didn't have school on Tuesday due to the district vaccination of staff day. I just kept on quilting on the Vertical quilt. The quilting is finished!

I love the texture of the Dominos pattern from Urban Elementz! I think it gives this quilt a little jazz.

When I dropped off the above quilt, my friend had another quilt for me to longarm:

At a quick glance it looks like the back is big enough, but I'll have to make frankenbatting. One comes off the list, one goes back on...

This brings me down to 59 projects on my WIP list. This is getting exciting for me.

Domino Template from Urban Elementz

This weekend I started quilting the Dominos pattern from Urban Elementz. I saw it advertised as being on sale on Instagram and they got me. I needed to add something new to my edge-to-edge quilting options. Quilting this quilt and the last quilt for my friend will pay for the template.

Happy President's Day for those who celebrate. There is no school today. I hope to be able to quilt a little more on this and get it at least 75% complete. There is also no school on Tuesday because our school district is scheduled to get their vaccinations. Hopefully this quilt will be quilted by Wednesday? Woohoo. Let's move on to another finish.

I need practice on circles and straight lines. I think it doesn't look that bad for my first run. I have two stylists. One is for Circle Lord boards; one is for the Urban Elementz boards. The one for the Urban Elementz does not fit as well as the Circle Lord one in the grooves and there is just a little bit more play.

My stitch length isn't as even as it usually is. I need to practice on an overall even speed of stitching.

I need to discuss how the stylist fits with my helper staff. Looks like they are busy in the garage.

The Vertical Quilt is on the Frame

I loaded this vertical quilt on the frame. I'll be quilting it with a template from Urban Elementz called Dominos. Wish me luck because this template has a lot of straight lines and circles.

I'm finding that I still like to use the top roller for when I load the quilt until I get to about the last two feet of the quilt to be quilted. At that point I float the top for the rest of it. This new-to-me has been producing better results at the bottom of the quilt.

The helper sorted scraps. We are getting them down to very large, manageable totes. He LOVES sorting things. He found some textured fabrics. I can tell he really wanted me to make a textured quilt. He asked if he could sort them according to texture. I said let's go for color for now and we can pull out the textured fabrics later.

RSC21 -- More Green

Fortune Teller -- Quilting Complete! RSC21 -- Drumsticks?

I finished the quilting on my Fortune Teller quilt. Now you can see the whole thing (minus the binding and label.)

This is my Fortune Teller Quilt. The pattern for this quilt can be found in the book Sunday Morning Quilts. It is written by Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryl Arkison. I was lucky that I could get a copy from my local library. I started this project by making a couple of fortune teller blocks in the color of the month as a RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) project back in 2014.

I quilted it with my Circle Lord giant template board called Swirls. I used a soft, flannel, gently used sheet for the back so that it had a nice, one-piece back. I know it will be used and loved.

Cathy that blogs at Sane, Crazy, Crumby Quilting inspired me in (as she always does) to use up those scraps. Check out her gorgeous rail fence quilt here. She made 900 blocks here and there over a few years and ended up with a gorgeous quilt.

I loved the idea of using up 1.5" strips of the color of the month for the RSC and started making them in 2021. Here's 14 more for 28/900 complete. Sometimes an extra color slips in there.

Drumsticks? Yes, I'm making drumsticks... It started out like this:

I cut all the little yellow pieces needed to make turkey legs (hence why I'm calling them drumsticks.) These are for the pattern called Goggle Gobble by Lori Holt. I bought this pattern so long ago when it I had just a little extra to spend from a gift certificate. I knew it would be a fun, scrappy adventure, so here we are. I don't have many holiday quilts. I do have a few Christmas quilts. I can totally decorate with quilts! I made a sample turkey block just to make sure I liked it. I LOVE it! I love all the dot fabrics that I'm using on this one.

I know it's a new project, but a few are finished already this year. I also need to think about a tree skirt. My husband still can't believe we don't have a quilted tree skirt.

I just kept cutting and sewing and all the little legs were done. I cut enough yellow pieces to make the turkey beaks as well. They are not all sewn yet. These blocks are very fun!

I loved it when I wrote this blog post that I noticed a couple extra photos on my SD card. Looks like someone took the camera up to his room and took a photo of him on his computer. Now that he's a teenager I give him as much freedom as I can. I have all the settings on his computer to keep him as safe as we can. He is still doing great with remote learning, but the work is getting harder. He does almost all of his schoolwork on his own. He especially helps me when we have virtual meetings. He knows how to do all of the fancy things like change his background and share documents and. He's definitely my mini me.

Charity Crib Quilt Complete

This little charity crib quilt is complete. The quilt top was found in a bag of scraps that a friend gave to me. It measures a sweet 27" x 32".

It brightens the tracks in the snow made by the four wheeler pulling the sled. It's overcast today.

I quilted it using my Circle Lord template board called Swirls. It has a soft pink and blue backing. I ran out of the pink polka dot binding in my binding scraps so I added a little piece of green for a scrappy corner binding. I it gives the quilt a little character.

WIP Wednesday 2.10.21

It's been another great week of sewing and quilting. We also had a lot of fun in the snow.

I finished this little charity crib quilt. It comes off the list.

I loaded my Fortune Teller quilt onto the longarm frame. It is my OMG for February to finish.

I picked up this vertical strip quilt to longarm quilt for a friend. The back is not big enough. I need to work on adding to it so that it can be quilted.

On Friday I dropped off this quilt that I longarm quilted for a friend.

I started two more RSC projects this year. The first one is called Stay Centered. It is a free pattern that I got on the APQS website here. I made the yellow row. I'll put this row away until one of the other colors appear as our color of the month.

Another RSC project that I started last month is the GO! ABCs Throw Quilt Pattern. This is a free pattern (right now) on the Accuquilt site here. I have decided which month will be which color and spaced them out on the pattern. This month I ended up making three letters. Now this project is done for February. I'll put it in the happy little bin until March. I am adding as much of the block that I can to assemble the quilt. I notice that sometimes my projects stall because all of the blocks are made but I have to take time to do all the sashings and cornerstones. I will continue to build each row as much as I can. I seem to have more time in the winter months to sew than the summer months.

I am down to 59 projects on my WIP list. This is getting exciting for me.
