Snow Day! Hot Cross Buns Blocks

It's a snow day!  No school today!  I just kept plugging away at my hot cross buns blocks.  All of them are now DONE and ready to party -- Garden Party, that is.

Garden Party is a pattern by Bonnie Hunter.  It is in her Addicted to Scraps book.  I finished all of the red blocks this week as well.  Now I can put the rest of the quilt together.  Woohoo!  It's getting there.

I just love those red 1.5" (finished at 1" in the quilt) squares going through the quilt!

Temperature Quilt Along

I continue to make kite blocks each day for the temperature quiltalong.

Each day I make the kite part of the block in the designated HIGH fabric and I make the background of the kite block in the designated LOW fabric.  I don't know how the size layout is going to work for this one.  Will I need to make it more than one year to make it a useable size?  We shall see.

Garden Party -- BOMs Away!

Because the color of the month is RED for the RSC19, I decided to start working on my Garden Party quilt.  This is a Bonnie Hunter pattern.  It can be found in her book Addicted to Scraps.

I added two extra rows to make the quilt larger.  The original size is only 82" x 82".  I am now at the point where I can count to see how many more blocks I need.

All of the red framed 9-patch blocks are now complete, as are the ends and the last corner!

I lay the blocks on the bed and carefully pick them up in order so that I can chain sew them.

I take pictures just in case they get mixed up while being sewn.

Look at all those yummy scraps!
I over estimated by a few.  After sewing all of my blocks I still had this many left over.  I'll use them for another project.  I know I'll be using scrappy red cornerstones for my  RSC plus quilt.

I am primarily concentrating on finishing this quilt top.  This is my designated personal BOM.

My husband got old "Betsy" (the black truck) out to plow the driveway.  His friend stopped by to see if he needed help.  Betsy used to be a pulling truck at the fair.  She's a '71 Chevy with a big block.  Shifting her is a little sensitive, but I can do it when I have to.  It's nice to see her out and about.

Slow Sunday Stitching 1.20.19

Snow storm!!!  It's a holiday weekend that I plan to wear my TV pants and stitch.

This week when I took my stitching with me to school, I ended up at a little bakery/cafĂ© near the school.  Isn't this a cute little place to stitch?  The air was filled with fresh baked brownie aroma.  Students go there and work for about 60 minutes.  I finished this apple tree.

I also found a new FREE cross stitch sampler on a Facebook group.  It's called Linen and Threads - Mystery Sampler SAL.  The website for the free patterns each month is here.  January starts off with a beautiful peacock.  The pattern is provided.  You pick the colors.

I gathered all my supplies from my stash.  Even my favorite oval hoop was available for a new project.  BUT I realized that I didn't have a piece of 14 Count Aida that was 23" x 23".  I'll have to check my other supplies in the quilt room.  Now where did I store all those???  I know I have one up there.  ...to be continued.

I'm linking up with Kathy at Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.  Come check out the fun.

Gypsy Wife QAL

I needed to complete one block (Hope from Hartford) to have the blocks for January complete.

Today I organized my stuff for the Gypsy Wife QAL that's happening on Instagram.  I remember I had an "out of my comfort zone" color scheme.  But now my brain is saying LET'S DO THIS!  It has been on my WIP list since 2017.  Here's what I have collected so far.  These aren't my usual fabrics.

Here's stuff I need to remember:

I can find the info for the 2019 Gypsy Wife Quilt Along at Stitched In Color blog.

The hashtag on Instagram after I made the four January blocks is #Jan2019Gypsies

The hashtag for anything related that I post on Instagram is #2019GypsyWifeQAL

January blocks are:  Color Wheel, Pershing, From the Heart, and Hope from Hartford.

Progress on THREE RSC Projects! -- RSC19

With the winter snow and a few days off school I have made tons of progress this week!  I'm excited to post that I finished a project that I started with the RSC17, Pat Sloan's 182 Day Winter Solstice Challenge.  It was part of her I Love to Make Quilts series.

I finished the 2018 Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilt top called Good Fortune.  I used tons of red/white four patches to make the beautiful pieces that connect across the quilt.  I may add a bigger/wider border.  I'm still thinking about that.  The extra border would make it a more useable size AND make the longarmer (me) happy to not worry about losing all those beautiful points when pulled slightly in the frame and trimming.  I normally don't worry about that, but with all the strings in there I'm expecting a little stretch when quilting this quilt.

I made it according to the original clue and have tons of red/white four patches left.  Plus I have been using them as leader/ender blocks this month.  I'm moving on to other scrappy colors for the leader/ender four patches.  Obviously I have enough red for a while.

I also finished a long cabin style quilt in the pink strings that I made for the RSC a couple years back.

I'm linking up on Angela's blog for the RSC19 here.  Happy stitching!  Be safe out there.

Whoop Whoop, A Friday Finish -- Pat Sloan's Summer Solstice Challenge

I'm super excited that I got my January OMG! quilt done this early in the month.  Whohoo!

This quilt was the results of a 182 day quilt along hosted by Pat Sloan.  It was part of the I Love to Make Quilts Challenge called Winter Solstice.  I chose red and white fabrics from my stash.  I was new to needle turn applique, but I especially love those three blocks.

I quilted it using my new (to me) Circle Lord clam shells giant board.  It went quickly and only took me 4.5 hours to quilt (with a little piddling).  This counts loading and unloading too!

The back of the quilt is made up of three red/white blocks that I had in my orphan block box and a bunch of miscellaneous reds.  The clam shell quilting looks fun on the back.

I'll also be linking up with the Q1 Finish-a-Long.  Whew.  That's a lot of linking!
