Customer Quilt Top Parade

It's a busier summer than usual in the longarm quilting world for me.  I have these customer quilts in line to be quilted the next few weeks (or as long as it takes -- I have an awesome customer that isn't in a hurry for them)  I also have some local quilt guild quilts that need to be longarmed:

This is a banner that will be donated to hang on the walls of a Children's Network.  Children decorated blocks, they gave them to our guild.  We are making banners (wall hangings) to hang on the walls.  I will be doing the quilting.

A fun string quilt.  This one was done on foundation fabric.  It is heavy.

This was a beautiful leaf quilt.  The customer that needs it longarmed comes up with a pattern for everyone at our local quilt guild's "Scrap Therapy" night that happens once a month.  Everybody gets together and plays with scraps.  I don't usually attend because the schedule doesn't work out with our son's schedule.  Someday...

 

This quilt was made by another guild member.  It is ready to be longarmed.

Moving it Forward -- MONDAY

This week I am trying to move this D9P (Disappearing 9-patch) quilt along.  It is my OMG (One Main Goal) quilt for June.  These blocks were swapped by my local quilt guild at Christmas, 2016.  I didn't have to purchase any new fabrics.  This was a great scrap buster project for me.

Each member participating was supposed to make blocks in the colors chose by the receiver.  I requested 8 grey blocks and one red center block for my set.  Interesting how others interpreted by adding white, light blues -- and even GREEN!  Hmmm.  It is what it is.  I need to make one more block before this can be made into a top.  Because of the color variations I'm not going to take the time to sash it.  It will make a nice throw quilt.

Happy Father's Day

So I tried to be crafty and make a fun card for my husband for Father's Day.  I tried to make a cute shirt and tie from this origami tutorial  It turned out okay... My husband is super sentimental.  Hopefully the little shirt made out of the $100 will eventually be spent on something he really wants.

 

The money in the card below isn't real.  It's printed fabric.

Kite Girl Finds a Friend

Earlier this spring I went through my blocks and WIPS and UFOs and I came across Kite Girl.  She needed one more friend.

 

This month I not only pieced another block, but embroidered it as well.

The block is made from 2" squares.  The block pattern can be found at Q is for Quilter blog.

 

All of the kite girls and embroidered now.  I can start putting them together someday...  I will be using a kona solid as the sashing.  I even already bought it.  I just don't know when that will happen.  I took in TEN customer quilts to longarm and have THREE guild quilts to longarm.  I'll put some of my projects on the back burner for now.

BUT I do have to start working on something new in my to-go bag!  I chose this embroidery project.  I've never done anything like this before.  A friend gave me this package.  It didn't have any floss with it.

 

Someone donated a ton of floss to our guild.  I went and got a few skeins (enough for this project) and started with one little bear ear...

 

 

That became two bear ears...  Then I STOPPED with the bear ears.  I thought it might be better to just start in the center of the embroidery quilt and work my way out... using different needles and colors of floss as needed.  Is that the way it's done?  How do you do it?

2) Do you finish all one color first?

Scrap Saturday -- More Yellow in the Garden

The Garden Party (pattern by Bonnie Hunter) grew one more row.  I don't want to do all yellow, but a few yellow/gold pieces helped make this row. Full yellow to golds, to yellow in the neutrals...  It all seems to work in the big picture.  Bonnie's patterns are great for this.  I'm pretty sure I'm half way done with the quilt after ONE more row diagonally.  I'm going for a queen sized quilt with drop.
