WIP Wednesday 1.18.17

Here's what was accomplished this week:

I still haven't started any new projects this year.  I know... I'm shocked myself!  Lorna's QA is tempting me and calling my name.  I'm holding back (for now...) even though I printed the cute stocking pattern and put it in a binder...

I finished Stars Stripes & Other Things quilt.  You can read about it here.

I completed the block for the week (4/25) for Pat Sloan's Winter Solstice QA.

Some of my sewing never gets a photo.  But it happens a lot.  Here's a picture of three things that needed repaired/hemmed/altered in some way...bottoms:

I finished all the hand stitching on my Candy Cane mini.  Now for some simple machine quilting.

After making a purple Soul Searching block that I can't show because Julianne from Quilting with Calicos and I are swapping QUILT TOPS soon! I made some plus blocks with left over 2.5" strips for the RSC17.

I finished this little top.  My neighbor gave me a kit:

On Monday I started Moving It Forward Monday --moving things forward on this project and made a building... no roof, no sides, no chimney...

But my moving it forward I just kept going on Tuesday.  You see, the building above was keeping me from putting all these blocks together.  Now about 1/3 of the quilt top is done!

Welcome Home Sampler Fiber Tuesday with Mel

Yesterday's post might not have seemed like much.  It was just the picture of a building block.  No chimney, no sides, no roof.  I posted about it here.  I am working on The Welcome Home Sampler from the book Welcome Home by Cheryl Wall.

But look what that little block plus the roof, chimney, side, a double churn dash, and some flying geese became:

This project started out as one of my Sunday Slow Stitching projects because of the applique.  All of the applique is complete.  Now I have moved on to piecing other blocks and putting all of it together.  This is about 1/3 of the quilt.  I LOVE all the scraps and homespuns and shirtings!

I'm linking up in The Quilting Room with Mel for Fiber Tuesday.

Welcome Home Sampler, Block 3 -- Moving it Forward Monday

Today I had time to start the house part of Block 3 for the Welcome Home Sampler (Cheryl Wall pattern.)  I like the way I ran out of the checkered fabric (building part on the left) and used something in my scrap basket that was very similar (same check, slightly different color.)

Slow Sunday Stitching -- Candy Cane Mini Top Complete

I finished all the hand stitching on my little candy cane mini.  Next up -- QUILTING!  Yeah.  I also found the other kit this week.  My neighbor, Karen, gave both of these little projects to me.  They are from By Thy Hands at www.buttermilkbasin.com.

My neighbor bought a bunch of little "kits" somewhere really cheap and gave a couple to me.  It's fun work.  The little piece of paper with it shows a pieced block that will go with it.  It also came with some fabric, but not enough???  Guess it's not a complete kit.  No wonder why it was on sale at such a good price.

What once started out a Slow Sunday Stitching project just because I needed to put something in my to-go bag quickly IS NOW COMPLETE!  I'm still new to hand applique and put the star blocks in my to-go bag so I would have something to do.  I started that after Thanksgiving in 2016.

I quilted it with Circle Lord's giant template board called Milkyway.  Here's the pieced back.  I found some cute heart/flag blocks from a project I started but then didn't do any more blocks.  It was perfect for this little 46" x 46" quilt.  I won't bore you with the other details.  You can read more here.

I've made so much slow stitching progress on this little quilt this week!  Look at the completed pomegranate's! ...and leaves are sprouting out here and there!

I'm working from Kim Dehl's book (above).

Purple Plus Blocks

I only got a few plus blocks made today.  But I put a huge dent into cutting neutrals into 2.5" strips.  That will speed up the process in the future.  I haven't worked on plus blocks since February of 2016.  Happy to move this WIP forward.

Friday Finish #2 -- Stars, Stripes & Other Things

I'm happy to announce I have another finish!  This quilt is called Stars, Stripes & Other Things.  I started this project late in 2016 because I needed a little applique project for my to-go bag.  These nine little stars fit the bill.  I love it!

It finished at 46" x 46".  I quilted it using my Circle Lord giant template board called Milky Way.  Boy do I love Circle Lord products for finishing the job!  Here's a picture to show the swirls and stars.  I did not use the inside stars (which are in the template.)

I found a nice plaid for the backing.  Fitting for the theme in front.  I also made use of the first row of flags and stars that I had started in a quilt along in 2016 in which I just couldn't keep up with all my projects.  I'm happy to report that WIP #2 of 85 for 2017 is complete.

The pattern is called Stars, Stripes & Other Things.  The pattern had rail fence blocks in it, but I just used squares.  It is in this book that I found at a garage sale:

I love those little projects in my to-go bag.  It makes me feel productive.

It's time to link up those finishes for the Finish-A-Long Q1 Link-Up.

I'm linking up with Rhonda's Quilt Ramblings here. for the Q1 finish.  You can see my original 2017 Goal Setting post here.

Back then, this quilt was just a little quilt top awaiting a back, quilting, and binding.
