Scrap Saturday 11.15.14

This week I worked on a few Fortune Teller blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC14).

 

The string blocks are 5" (4.5" finished).  When assembled in a 9-patch block, it measures 13.5" (13" finished.)

 

I'm not sure if that is the exact size used in Sunday Morning Quilts by Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts blog, but it's the size of my Accuquilt die.  I like to cut my phone book pages with the die.  After I sew the strings to the foundation I put it back in the die (usually only 2 at a time) and use the die to trim them.  It makes for a nice, square block!

 

I also found a short little mystery QA that should finish before the Bonnie Hunter mystery starts.  You can learn more about the mini fun at Humble Quilts Blog.  It's called Cascadia.

Cascadia Mystery Quilt

Today I finished clue 2 for the mystery doll quilt.   You can learn more about the mini fun at Humble Quilts Blog.  It's called Cascadia.  I decided to go with another color family (orange) for clue 2.  This little quilt is filling my need to do something new and using scraps -- love mysteries!

WIP Wednesday 11.12.14

I'm still plugging away at my Celtic Solstice quilt.  The back is going to be one hodgepodge masterpiece.  There's parts of the back of this quilt EVERYWHERE!!!  The desk, the machine, the floor, the couch...   EVERYWHERE!



I made the letters "R" and "S" for the Little Letters QA at Temecula Quilt Company.  I'm happy to be so current on a quilt along. It's progressing nicely.  Three little letters to go!

I found my Frosty & Friends WIP box.  It only had the heads done with the hats and half of the buttons.  I sorted and worked and got it to this point.  These will make nice teacher gifts!

 

This is a pattern by Debbie Mumm.  It is in a book from 1992 called Quick Country Quilting.   You can also find a FREE pattern on Debbie Mumm's site FREE here.

Here's the quilt I made for my son's kindergarten teacher last year:



I loaded my blue sampler quilt onto the longarm frame.  I quilted it with Circle Lord Jesters.  All done with the quilting.  Now to trim and bind.



Speaking of QA's, with the RSC14 colors of light blue, I made a four light blue rows for a doll quilt QA.  You can learn more about the mini fun at Humble Quilts Blog.  It's called Cascadia.  Here's my rows for the first clue.

Scraptastic Tuesday!

Happy Veterans' Day!  Remember those who served.  My dad and uncle served in WWII.  Both of my grandfathers served in WWI.  They have all passed away.  All of my questions will be answered when the time comes.

It's also Scraptastic Tuesday at She Can Quilt blog, and Mrs. Sew and Sow blog.  Link up!!!  I'm linking my Little Letters QA quilt made from some of my browns, tans, and grey scraps.  I LOVE the colors in this quilt.  I predict there will be more quilts made with this color combo.  I started making this quilt because I was looking for a project for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC14) for the dark October colors.

Frosty & Friends WIP

This week I came across this box.  It's time to start thinking about teacher gifts.  I'm glad that I just went through all my magazines and quilt books last week so that I could quickly and easily find the pattern that I needed for it.

 

Let's see what we have in it.  It's a wrinkled mess.  At least I left myself a little note...

 

I only had snowman heads with hats and half of the first button sewn together.  At least everything in my little "kit" was already cut.  That and picking out the fabric is more than half the battle for me.

 

I sorted and worked and got it to this point.

I like the lighter grey for the background better than the dark grey.  The mini quilts will be cute with either.  I like the blue ones too.  Can't wait to get all those checkers done.  Debbie Mumm has a different way of doing them by sewing all seven strips together and then cutting.

 

Sampler Quilt on the Frame

Last week I loaded my sampler quilt onto my longarm frame.  I am quilting it with Circle Lord Jesters.  I LOVE this design.

 

I love the size of this design.  It will make a soft bed quilt.  It could also be masculine or feminine with the points and swirls.  I'm sure it will be a new customer favorite next to Swirls.

Celtic Solstice Progress?

This week I got a little frustrated while making the back of Celtic Solstice.  I've been working on it for weeks...  Here's some of what I have to show for it.

 

I've been using orphan blocks and making blocks in my colors to make it kinda like the back of Bonnie's Florabunda.  I'm not close to getting it big enough. but I am using up tiny tiny blocks that I wouldn't have used any time soon.  I think I'll just keep going.  I may have to incorporate more colors and use other orphan blocks.  I was trying to keep the colors cohesive (believe it or not).  I do have a ton of orphan blocks...

 

At this point I took a five mile walk.  It felt good.

 

I guess I can work on it either Tuesday or Wednesday this week.  I have to have a big block of time that I can lay it all out on the floor while my helper is at school.

 

I'm linking up at Jo's Country Junction blog for the Bonnie Challenge Update.  I still haven't pulled fabrics for the mystery this year.  I just feel I have to get this one more finished than this.  The new challenge will consume most of my time.
