Celtic Solstice Clue 3

As for Celtic Soltice large quit,
Clue 1 is complete
Clue 2 is half finished
Clue 3 is complete.  Here's a sampling of my pinwheels.  I am using maroon for Bonnie's yellow.  I am using grey for Bonnie's orange.  I still need to press the pinwheels, but I'll easily accomplish that today while watching tv after work.

Some of our half-square triangles in this step will be made into pinwheels, and some will be left single as shown.

Just Squares Charity Quilt on the Frame

On the frame today is a Just Squares charity quilt for my local quilt guild.  I don't know who put the quilt top together.  Some of the squares are about 6-7", some of them are about 5".  Regardless, it will make a cozy quilt.

I just provided the backing and volunteered to do the longarming.  I am playing with a new Circle Lord template board.  It's called Zig Zag and Waves.  I didn't realize how many different designs this board could do when I bought it used on the APQS boards.  I LOVE this board!!!  I can see it getting used a lot!  I really just wanted to do zig zags to make some modern designs, but it does ribbons, crosshatching, argyle, and lots more.  I'm excited.

I was a little nervous when I started reading the instructions on the Circle Lord website.  After I made a few notes on how to do the design I wanted, it really wasn't that complicated.  I can't wait to try the squares.

I am quilting this charity quilt in red thread.  It looks a little different on the front, but the red goes well with the back.  The red is also helping me learn the new board.

I'm still plugging away at my Bonnie Hunter Mystery, Celtic Solstice, Clue #3.  I have all the HST for the large quilt done.  I just need to make more pinwheels.

LQG Mystery Round Robin--Brandy's

Here's the quilt pattern I picked for a friend in our LQG.  She trusted me with her fabric and I picked the pattern Washington Poppies from the April/May issue of Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting.  Here's the first four blocks.

At the December Christmas party all of the blocks were returned to Brandy.  I think they are gorgeous!  So bright and springy.

Jelly Roll Race Quilt Calculator

Here's my jelly roll race quilt that I finished earlier this year.  It's on my son's bed.  It's not the right size for any of our other beds.  But... Thank you, thank you, thank you, Kayla (Jo's daughter -- at Jo's Country Junction) for being our math wizard and computer genius and making this Jelly Roll Race Quilt Calculator for us!!!

If you've never made a jelly roll race quilt,  here is a YouTube video that shows you how.

Jo is keeping the calculator on her blog handy for us.  If you can't find it by searching or the link above, just go to her blog and it's on the right side bar alphabetically under Quilt Race Calculator.

Whohoo!  I need to keep this really handy just in case I need that last minute baby quilt to Christmas gift!

There's a lot of other great tutorials on her blog too.  Grab a cup of coffee and stay a while!

She's on facebook too!!!  Check it out here.

Chippy taking is Friday night date on a moonlit hot air balloon ride might indicate that he is watching too much reality tv during the off season.

Frosty & Friends Friday Finish

Here's my little holiday quilt that I finished.

This is a pattern by Debbie Mumm.  It is in a book from 1992 called Quick Country Quilting.  You can see it on Amazon here.  You may want to check your local library too.  Our county library had a copy!  The checkered border was really easy because I used my GO! Baby and my strip cutter.  Accuracy was really important in these strip pieces.

Update:  Thanks to Carol's comment, Carol let us know that we can also get the pattern on Debbie Mumm's site FREE here.

If you didn't see my WIP Wednesday post this week, you can see that I had a little help from our Elf on the Shelf, Chippy.

I quilted it quickly with my go-to pattern, Circle Lord Swirls.  I was hoping that the swirls weren't too big for the snowmen.  I just looks like a really windy day and gives the quilt motion.  I backed it with a simple holiday fabric from JoAnn Fabrics and added a hanging sleeve.  This is the first hanging sleeve that I have done.  It was really easy and there are a lot of simple tutorials out there.  I used this video tutorial.

I'm happy to link up with Richard and Tanya Quilts for the Link-A-Finish FRIDAY.

I'm also linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts:

2013 Quilt Doodle Doodles BOM Quilt Top Complete

Today I finished my Quilt Doodle Designs 2013 BOM quilt.  I love it!

The picture above shows the way that Cindy designed it at Quilt Doodle Doodles blog.  I decided to add an extra set of borders to make it larger.  I really like how the orange pulls everything together and frames the quilt.  I wish the sun would have come out a little more for the picture, but it was only 8 degrees this morning.  I had to wait for the wind to die down, so I'll take what I can get.  Here it is with extra borders:

I definitely have plans for a pieced back using the squares that my mom put together in the late 70's.

WIP Wednesday 12.11.13

Here's what happened this week:

I completed the Tall Geese quilt (blocks won from the May, 2013 Block Lotto).

I quilted this little Frosty & Friends wall hanging quilt.  Binding is cut; it just needs finished.  For those of you who are familiar with Elf on the Shelf, I know he's only trying to do elf work, but Chippy shouldn't mess with Mommy's sewing machine.

I also finished longarm quilting my Scrappy Christmas QA quilt.  I can't believe I quilted the whole thing yesterday!  I need to select a binding for this one.

I completed the last block for the Quilt Doodle Designs Mystery BOM quilt.  Since I have been adding the blocks to the quilt as they are made it shouldn't take long to finish this quilt top.

I completed all of Step 1 of Celtic Solstice (large size).

I'm working on all the gorgeous chevrons for Step 2 of Celtic Solstice.  I'm making great progress.  All are cut and ready to sew.
