Finish (& Frame) Friday - Pegasus Quilt

This week I was giving the Pegasus Quilt and loaded in on the frame.  It's called the Pegasus Quilt because each year my LQG makes a quilt to be donated to Pegasus.  Pegasus Farms is a therapeutic horseback riding program in our area.  My son and I have gone to a few events there.

Members of the guild made blue star blocks.  The white background fabric was supplied to us and we provided the blue and chose the star pattern.  Most of us made two blocks.  One block went into this quilt and the other block went into our challenge quilt.  The challenge quilt is won by a guild member by drawing a name out of a hat (one chance per block made.)  The winner then selects the theme for the next challenge and provides some of the fabric.  We do two challenge quilts per year.

Anywho... many members contributed star blocks.  The person in charge of the challenge put the quilt top together.  Another person made the back (it's plain white, but nicely surged and square).  I am longarming it.  I will pass it off to be trimmed and have the binding put on it.  Another person will make a label.  Another person will sew on the label.  Somebody will present it to Pegasus Farms for their main charity event.  It's a whole guild effort.  I'm honored that they trusted me to quilt it.

 

 

 

I chose to quilt it with Circle Lord swirls since that is what I am most confident with right now.

For those of you still reading...  You can see my Dodge Ram through the window... AKA my cutting table while my son is in speech therapy.  LOL.  Didn't realize that was in the shot.  Guess it wants credit too.

Low and behold and a little insomnia, I was handed this quilt on Tuesday and it is FINISHED (with my part) on Friday!!!  I was so nervous about having a white quilt around with a mechanical/construction working husband and a six year old son.  I quickly threw it in my truck and delivered it to the next person for trimming and binding.  I'm very happy with the longarming!!!

Charity Quilts for our LQG

I picked up some more charity quilts from my LQG to longarm.  I try to do a quilt for me, a quilt for the guild, a quilt for somebody else.  Here are some pics of the charity quilts:

WIP Wednesday 9.4.13

Busy week again.  I got a lot of inspiration from a couple of county fairs in my area.

I completed the Jacob's Ladder charity quilt for our local quilt guild (LQG).  I'm very happy with the crosshatched feathered circles that I did on the cream squares.



I picked up my String of Pearls QA  fair quilt that won a 2nd place ribbon at our county fair.  Thanks for having such an awesome QA, Christa!  Check out this pattern for FREE at Christa Quilts blog.  I received a few good tips on my judging sheet.



I thought I completed my Surround Stars QA top.  But I just can't stand my trying to be modern design and HAVE to remove that little block.  I made another green one to replace it.  I just need to do some froggy stitching and it will be back in order.



I finished longarming my tumbler charm quilt.  It needs trimmed and binding.  I haven't even decided on the binding yet.  Here it is still on the frame.

I made this gorgeous, gorgeous herringbone block for the MSBHQAL (Molli Sparkles Broken Herringbone Quilt Along)  This is my "new" thing this week since I finished the tumbler charm quilt.
I'll be using scraps in pink, orange, and yellow for this QA.  It will be a nine-block baby girl quilt.

Surround Stars

Hmmm.  I thought I would be creative and make this my own...  Looks like something went wrong.  I need to think about this one.  I may rip out that little star and make a pillow out of it and replace it with a correct size green star (not enough blue fabric is why I did the green).  This quilt was supposed to be a two-fabric quilt.  A miscalculation on my part because I was cutting my pieces on the bed of my truck while my son was in speech therapy.  Yes, I know I'm hard core...

I'm linking up with all the others with finished tops at Happy Quilting.  The more I look at this, the more I want to get that stitch ripper!!!

Update, 9/5/13  It's not fixed!  I will probably use the little one on the back since I'm not much of a pillow person.

Friday Finish 8.30.13

Here's another fine finish.  I'm very very happy how the feathered circles with crosshatches turned out!  This is a charity quilt for my local quilt guild.  It measures 45" x 79".  I did seven of the feathered circles with crosshatches in the cream solid blocks.  For the rest of the quilt I used straight line quilting spaced one inch apart.  You can tell in the picture that it gave the borders some texture.

County Fair Quilt Pictures

Here's some of the pictures from a neighboring county, Randolph County Fair in Ohio.  These are some of quilts that caught my eye. 

 

The picture of the mountain stream was all pieced with individual colors.  It was amazing.  The raw-edge applique quilt above it was scored higher (and pretty as well).

 

 

 

Great use of blues and cream in the above quilt.

 

 

Love the blues and creams in the Jacob's Ladder quilt.

 

 

Just plain cute.

 

Loved the scrappy blocks.  Sorry, don't know the block name right now.

 

 

Rules rules rules.  I see they require bias binding.

WIP Wednesday 9.4.13

Here we are!  The little man has returned to school.  I see a LOT of quilting in my future!  Here's what happened this week:

I finished the 8th of 9  paper-pieced blocks for the ...And Sew On BOM @ Quiet Play.



I made a sample hashtag block.  I saw it on another blog and just had to make a sample.



I've been working on my Star Surround blocks.  They keep getting moved here and there after I lay them out and then I have to lay them out again.  I hate when that happens.



I'm almost done with the binding on a charity quilt for the local guild.  Here's some of the quilting:
