Fireflies Wall Hanging

I started this 9/22/25.  It is a simple applique project that will be in my sew-to-go kit for school.  Background fabrics have been selected and cut to size.  Other fabrics have been selected.  Stem pieces have been cut and sewn into long strips but not sewn onto the background yet.  Scrappy blues have been selected for the rail fence blocks but not cut yet.  HST's will be a constant gold that matches the flower center and flower bud.

I'm glad I prepped these pieces for my sew-to-go bag.  I made some progress on them.  This one went to art class with me.  The art teacher actually has a small office in a storage closet.  Her supplies are on a cart that I take from room to room.

This stem was stitched in the "lemon" intervention room (1st & 3rd grade students).

These two stems were stitched in pre-school.  They look all wrinkly in the photo.  When I press them, they  are flat.  They get this way from being in the little plastic box I use to keep them safe in my teacher bag.

I finished the binding on the Unity quilt (2020 Bonnie Hunter quilt along) this week.  Here it is on our California king bed.  It will find its permanent home in our motor home.  I need three neutral quilts in there.  This is the first one.  It will match the decor perfectly.

I also finished all of the hand stitching on my 27.5" square Blue Orphan Block table topper.  My stitches are getting better.  I concentrated on getting them small and even in all of the border filler lines.

I'm linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching here.

  1. Why is it that the art teachers have the most material and clean up are made to be on a cart? I was an art teacher and at times had to cart stuff and teach something meaningful. Took a toll on my back and shoulders. Your projects are looking gorgeous.

  3. Your Unity quilt just blows me away. Gorgeous. I used to always have a "to go" bag of sewing when I was a substitute teacher. Your applique and quilting are very pretty. Enjoy your stitching!

  7. OH my, that Unity Quilt is a beauty and what an achievement, Kathy. I also love the Blue Orphan block topper. Yes, you certainly are doing a wonderful job with the hand stitching. And isn't it convenient to be able to choose an on the go project to stitch where ever. Happy Stitching from me!
