Sand Castles -- A Friday Finish -- March OMG Complete

I finished my Sand Castles quilt today.  Sand Castles is a Bonnie Hunter design and can be found in her book, String Fling.

It measures 83" square.  I love how the colors pop in the sun.  I moved to the side and took another photo and again love how it looks differently because of the color placements.  This was an awesome choice to use as an on-going Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) project.

It was my OMG for March to finish this quilt.  I am linking up at Elm Street Quilts for the OMG finish linky party here.

I quilted it with a jean gold thread using my Circle Lord giant template board called 7 Treasures of Buddah.  I finished it off with a solid green binding.  Of course, everything was from my stash--down to the Frankenbatting that is inside.

February was "yellow" month for the RSC.  I pulled together some less desirable large yellow pieces of fabrics from the yellow bin and make a pieced back.  Doing this not only helped me move this quilt toward the finish, but now I can put the lid on the yellow scraps bin.   All the yellows are pale.  I had to take this photo in the shade.  Today will be a busy day of running from here to there.

  1. Its beautiful. Did you quilt it on a long arm machine or your domestic machine. I have been wanting to try this pattern, but I do not have a long arm machine.

    1. I quilted it on my longarm. I have a Nolting 23" that I got when my mom passed away. It was my big splurge, but I think of her often when using it.

    1. Thank you! I like the darker browns with it for the strings. I'm very happy it is a finish and chalked off the list.

  3. Fabulous RSC finish, Kathy!! I'm still sad that Circlelord closed before I could buy the last 2 giant template boards that I wanted. 7 Treasures was one of them.

    1. The quality of the Circle Lord boards was way better than the others I use now. I really like the length of them (3 boards for a large quilt vs. 6 or 7 of the other brand.) I keep watching the for sale forums, but rarely does anyone seem to sell them.

  11. The connector corners look so rich and coppery. They are unusual and set off the diagonal units perfectly. Congratulations!
