Baby Name Quilt Friday Finish

I'm excited that I met all of my January quilting goals!  Last night I finished a Baby Name quilt.  The baby is due in February.  It turned out great!  The stitches on this one are quilt-show quality.  This quilt measures 50" x 50".  I did do the binding by machine so that it will hold up wash after wash.

And here's the pieced back.  I love the fabric that I found for the back.

I'm happy to link up today's finish with Richard and Tanya Quilts for the Link-A-Finish FRIDAY.

I'm also linking up with Elizabeth at Such a Sew and Sew. for the January Finishes Linky Party.

I'm also linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts:

Speaking of Amanda Jean from Crazy Mom Quilts, the Quilt Improv book that I won on your blog arrived today.  THANK YOU!!!!  I LOVE IT!!!  Also a BIG THANKS to F & W Media.

RSC14 Progress this Week

Being frozen in Ohio (the wind chill is in the negative teens and my son hasn't had school for four days in a row) I was able to make a few scrappy blue blocks here and there.  Check out what I accomplished this week.

WIP Wednesday 1.29.14

End of the month almost already.  It has been a busy busy month!
Here's what happened this week:
I finished quilting this pastel squares quilt for charity for our LQG.

After at least SIXTEEN hours of ripping out poor longarm stitches (from March, 2013), this quilt is ready to be quilted again.  I was so excited that I was learning how to use my template boards from R&L that I didn't look at the back of the quilt and had eyelashes in bright pink everywhere on the back of this quilt.  I've been neglecting this one for too long.  It has now moved to the "to be quilted" section on the list.  Whohoo!  Oh, this is the Spring, 2012 Mystery Quilt from Yahoo Groups.

I finished the quilt top for this baby name commission quilt.

All of the December Block Lotto Blocks have arrived.  I think I am going to use these for my Gypsy Wife QA.

I couldn't resist making Washington Square block for Pat Sloan's 2014 BOM.

I made more Crown of Thorn blocks for the RSC14.

I experimented and did a large block.  This block is 15" or something like that.

Baby Name Quilt Top Complete

The Baby Name commission quilt top is now complete.  This isn't the best picture.  It's a negative 12 degrees out there; the wind chill feels like negative 20 degrees.  This picture will have to do.

Hopefully it will warm up enough to take my son to speech therapy tomorrow evening.  I will pick out the backing then.  Then I will longarm it with swirls and a grey binding and DONE!  My goal is to have this one done by the end of the month  We'll see how many more snow days we get to set that one in stone.

Pat Sloan's 2014 BOM

I couldn't do it.  I just saw one too many posts/e-mails/social media posts regarding Pat Sloan's Free Globetrotting BOM.  Here's my first block, Washington Square.  This block is a H U G E 26" square!  The quilt is to finish at 60" square.  It will be interesting to see where it ends up.

Block Lotto Dud Quilt

All the blocks from the December, 2013, Block Lotto Dud giveaway have arrived.  All of them are pictured here except for one block from Julie P.  It was an A D O R A B L E red/white school house block.  It was immediately swept up and put in the center of another project.  It's just what that orphan block project needed.  I can't wait to reveal it when I get a little more time to put it together in February (hopefully).  I have two different ideas to put these duds together.  I'm either going to do a quilt similar to the Gypsy Wife QA, if the blocks aren't too big.(see link at sidebar) or I will be doing something with horizontal stripes.  We'll see.  Lord knows I have enough strings to put to good use.

Oh dear...  I think this also means that my WIP count goes up by one.  No sweat...  LOL.

RSC14 Scrap Saturday & FNSI Results

It's another Saturday.  I made two more English Wedding Ring blocks ( or Crown of Thorns).  I plan on making the scrap color of the month in this block.  When the year ends, I will put those blocks together and hopefully make a quilt.  These blocks are 7" blocks.

I experimented and did a large block.  This block is 15" or something like that.

I also finished some of my Baby Name Quilt.  All the letters are done.  Now I need to put a couple flying birds on it.  Sorry I didn't hang it on the line, but it's brrrrrr out there!

Here's a close-up of the applique

FNSI Plans 1.24.14

For the Friday Night Sew In (FNSI) I plan to work on my baby name quilt that is a commission quilt for two sisters that want to give the baby quilt to their sister-in-law that is due in February.  You can see what the others are working on at Sugarlane Designs blog for the FNSI.

Here's where it last left off with just the paper pieces on the quilt to give me an idea of how it will look.  The birds are too small.  I will need to make them bigger.

Here are the fabrics that I will be cutting and using Wonder Under to iron in place:

I have set six goals for the Q1 Finish Along for 2014.  I have already completed three of the five quilts that I have planned to have finished by the end of March.  I'm well on my way!  This is #4.

Friday Finish -- Pastel Squares Charity Quilt 1.24.14

The pastel squares quilt that I picked up at my local quilt guild to longarm is complete.  I think it turned out to be a really nice quilt.  I quilted it with my usual Circle Lord Swirls.  It measures a nice 59" x 72".  It will make a nice quilt for somebody.

Here's a close shot of the quilting.

Here's the pieced back.  I was busting some stash.  It doesn't match that great...  But my adorable little quilt helper is ready for action.

I'm happy to link up today's finish with Richard and Tanya Quilts for the Link-A-Finish FRIDAY.

WIP Wednesday 1.22.14

Whohoo!  Checking a few off the list today!  But it's three steps forward; four steps back.  I took on a lot of longarm quilting for the LQG.  I finished three quilts since the last WIP Wednesday.

I finished my 2013 BOM quilt at Quilt Doodle Designs and participated in the blog hop.

I completed the Flight crib quilt that I started with scraps just from last week.

I completed this small panel quilt for our LQG.  Another quilt longarmed with Circle Lord Swirls.

This is my THIRD finish in the past week.  I'm happy to link up today's finish with Richard and Tanya Quilts for the Link-A-Finish FRIDAY (the linky is still open!)

I'm also linking up with Elizabeth at Such a Sew and Sew. for the January Finishes Linky Party.

The back was a poly/cotton blend (I think.)  It was kinda silky, but quilted nicely.

January color for the RSC14 is blue.  Inspired by another RSC14 challenger, Cathy, I made this blue girl block.  (Kite strings and flower stem are not sewn on yet.)

I'm still debating if I will join the Star Light Star Bright QA at Melissa's blog Happy Quilting.  It's almost too hard to pass up.  Melissa Cory's QA's are a lot of fun and did you see the list of Prize$?  What an awesome list.  I'm sure I will join in during the next week or two.  Here instructions are so doable and well explained.  Here's a pic from Happy Quilting Blog of how the quilt will look.

I started working on the custom baby quilt with the name "Genevieve" on it for a customer.  Paper letters are printed, fabrics are selected.  Here's the name, but the birds need to be bigger.

Here's another charity quilt that I worked on this week for the LQG. I found some fabric four the binding that looks like flags on a sailboat.  I'll put the binding on today or tomorrow. These blocks are pretty neat.  It looked like someone won them or was the queen bee.  Most of the blocks have a signature and location (such as Florida or California.)  Most of the blocks are dated 1992.  I'm glad that I did swirls on it instead of custom quilting for each block.  The swirls look nice and give it lots of motion like waves and wind.

Here's a close-up shot of the back.  It's not that blue, it's just that there's not much sun for photos.

Oh dear, what have I done?  I took a finished charity quilt to our LQG.  I got FIVE more to do!!!  One was the little Precious Moments quilt that is already finished in the above photos.  Yikes.  It's all for charity.  Three of these should go quite quickly, since they are baby quilts.  I will be quilting all of them with Circle Lord swirls...  This week I already made all but one back for them.  Here's the stack.  (I'll show the complete quilts as I finish them.)  There goes my WIP count up again.

Here's one of the quilts in the photo.  I think it's pretty.  I'm not sure what color thread to use for the longarm quilting.  If you have any ideas, shout them out!  The back is the dragonfly fabric above.
